I think I'm done with Nation States!
Do not ban smoking and suddenly 8 years old are seen smoking in the streets.
Start a sports/education program and kids are suddenly bare-handedly killing people...
If someone is interrested in an 56 million people empire, PM me. :(

Some of the consequences are just plain stupid. However, I think I am beginning to sniff out the really silly ones and just dismiss them. I knew when I allowed nude bathing that my population would end up bollock naked most of the time. It was just amusing to see it happen.
You could get your revenge by writing some devious issues yourself. Turn super-capitalist states into socialist military dictatorships. :01:

Yeah, but that would defeat the purpose of the game. Sniffing sillyness and actually making a nation progress isn't exactly the same thing and certainly not why I signed for it in the first place!

I agree with you, but just as in real life one has to decide what actually merrits action. Frivilous bills deserve dismissal

Silly isn't even the right word, it happens that the game decides, for whatever reason, to actually do something completely different than what you've decided.
Unless not advocating affirmative action and banning minorities from schools is the same thing and nobody told me!
Next time this kind of sh*t happens, the Empire of Kyste will simply cease to be.

Re: The NationStates Thread!
No need to worry the empire of BigBank_Hank is gaining strength everyday and I’m almost strong enough to start invading neighboring nations. So soon enough you’ll be rid of your problem:imagine tongue smilie here: I haven’t figured out how to put smilies in yet. :frown:

What issue caused that hank???????

Re: The NationStates Thread!
They wanted to put up loud speakers all over town to broadcast messages. It was supposed to be used for emergencies but some thought that it would be abused and used to brain wash the citizens. The other option was for citizens to have a mini radio for emergency broadcasts only. Well so I thought.

World rankings of what?
perhaps this could explain lower tax.

My nation has 100% full healthcare coverage, pensions, free education at all levels and the unemployed do not go hungry.
i know where i'd like to live

the world rankings rate you out of the 110,000 current active nations. Click on "The World" on the left hand side for rankings, our check your nation's homepage.
The Heavy manual labor thing is a bunch of crap; and since the citizens keep all of their money (I take 40 blings for every 1000, you take 360 colas for every 1000, not counting what you rip wealthy people for :shifty:, Thats 640 blings a month that can be used for a great healthcare plan and food, if you make 24,000 blings a year. Imagine what 300 blings a month can buy for healthcare!); if they want to go to a beach, they can.
They have their own personalized healthcare plans; free education, and there is next to no unemployed in the first place :)

Re: The NationStates Thread!
i know what world rankings are... it was the subject i was asking about....whch was wood chipping What do the people that can't afford healthcare do? Or is your private medicine somehow so cheap that everyone can afford it?
That was one of the things i wonder about in the real world with GW and his statement..."i put my faith in the wisdom of the American people"....
My family healthcare coverage is around the 10,000 wisdoms per anum.... how could a minimum wage family afford that?
-
Re: The NationStates Thread!
10,000? wow; I googled "average healthcare costs for family coverage and came up with the average of a little over 2,000 a year in a study by the Keiser Foundation (2,084 to be exact.)

Re: The NationStates Thread!
I got a real interesting one today. Not to sure which way I'm going on this one.
Politicians from a distant and obscure part of BigBank_Hank have been calling for the government to split BigBank_Hank into various semi-autonomous regions, each with an elected council to govern their designated area.
1. "The government is too centralised," complains rural villager, Akira Utopia. "We get these big-city politicians making rulings that effect our way of life, when they have absolutely no idea what our way of life is! One of them even suggested that farmers should be banned from picking crops in case they disturbed the local wildlife! What we need are various councils to govern their own part of BigBank_Hank, giving us the chance to have our say on laws affecting our area. It'll bring politics to the people! Of course this will require the implementation of a council tax to fund it all, but if that's the cost of more political freedom, then so be it!"
2. "Councils? Are you mad?" gasps political commentator, Randy Thiesen. "Most of the politicians we already have earn very large sums each year - and you want to employ even more?! We must not listen to the whims of some dangerous separatist movement, next they'll be wanting independence! I suggest we keep the government in one place where we can keep an eye on it and stop creating more jobs for over-paid politicians. Heck, why not trim off the ones we don't need while we're at it and give some leeway to the tax payers? Anyway, if we allowed places like West BigBank_Hank to make decisions for themselves, they would soon be introducing laws allowing them to marry their cousins or something - you know what they're like..."
3. "These people are obviously power-hungry lunatics," whispers Faith Longfellow, one of your innumerable advisors. "They're simply trying to loosen your grip on the nation! Let's just send anyone who opposes your absolute rule to the gallows and ban elections. We hardly need them when you always know what to do! There may be some protest, but we can just lower taxes and they'll be as happy as clams."

The Issue
Children as young as eight have been spotted gambling in some of Vidcc's seedier casinos.
The Debate
- Social activist Roxanne Dodinas is outraged. "Gambling needs to be outlawed immediately. It's no wonder children are becoming sucked into the vice, with adults setting such a poor example. Gambling is a stain on Vidcc's international reputation and it must be stopped!"
- However, Crown Casino chairperson Konrad Shiomi says, "What's wrong with children gambling? It prepares them for the realities of life, teaching them that success or failure is not due to hard work or intelligence, but the roll of the dice. Besides, if kids weren't gambling, they'd be spraypainting trains."
where is the option to police casinos to make sure underage gambling doesn't take place?
A poor thought out issue....dismissed.
-
Re: The NationStates Thread!
I think that I dismissed that issue because they gave no viable solution to the problem.
Vid how did you make such of a large quote box? I tried that earlier and had to do but it would only let me do 1 paragraph.

The Rogue Nation of Spifreny is a very large, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its complete lack of prisons. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 76 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.
The small government juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Education. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 6%. A healthy private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Pizza Delivery and Information Technology.
The government helps teach children how to kill a man from six paces, convicted murderers are free to walk the streets provided they attend rehabilitation classes, child labor has been outlawed, and army rations are served on silver platters. Crime is a major problem, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Spifreny's national animal is the Ant, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Bling Bling.

Scientists using cloned human embryos for research are on the verge of a medical breakthrough.
The Debate
- "It's really very exciting," says lab head Buy King. "Until now, we've kept very quiet, to avoid being targeted by lunatic fringe groups who for some reason think it's wrong to clone human embryos. It's too early to promise anything, but we hope that one day we will have genetic cures for a whole range of debilitating illnesses. I certainly hope the government will support our work."
This is the position your government is preparing to adopt. - "Well, if you have to be part of a lunatic fringe group to object to this barbaric practice, I'm a lunatic," says placard-waving protestor Calvin Jong-Il. "Of course it would be nice to cure these unnamed diseases, but at what cost? They're messing with the sanctity of human life. It's wrong, and the lab should be shut down immediately."
i have a feeling that eveyone will look the same soon....i am probably being naive thinking that when they say clone embryos they are doing it for the genetic material and not to produce humans
