What games really impressed you on the PC?
Well for me, the following gave me that "WOW" feeling for a long time:
One of the first has got to be Quake. This was very impressive to me and started my whole PC gameing experience.
Next came SimTower.. ahh the gameplay was what's so great. I got Tower Rating also! Took many trys..but I eventually made the ultimate tower.
Age Of Empires 1 (very addictive at first for a long time..2 wasnt as addictive..later I even tried Rise Of Nations.. some said it was good.. i say it's crap.. gameplay is too busy.)
Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader (both very amazing.. they blow AOE away!)
Rollercoaster Tycoon (ahhh.. now here was something to play!)
The Sims (CRACK COCAINe.. i regret the hours wasted tho..:-( )
Grand Theft Auto 3 (Play and Beat #3, then get vice city! AMAZING games... I Looooove this new genre they busted out with.)
Halo (BUY IT!!.. you wont regret the purchase..online play is the best!!!)
Right now I'm trying Tiger Woods PGA 2004 and Doom 3 (good graphics..lacks horror..might be the save system that makes it too easy)...oh yea, dont forget some HALO from time to time..damn it's such a time waster...but soo fun... drool

Re: What games really impressed you on the PC?
Farcry is a really cool game, but is hard to get running smoothly without having shitty picture quality.
-
Re: What games really impressed you on the PC?
I'm a big Stronghold fan as well. Best RTS strategy I played. (Red Alert 2 a close 2nd)
Other impressive PC games:
Half-Life
Return To Castle Wolfenstein
Battlefield 1942

Re: What games really impressed you on the PC?
Anarchy Online for me.
First MMORPG I played, and taking part of this huge world with thousands of real life people had me going for quite some time.

Re: What games really impressed you on the PC?
Morrowind.
No other game has made me go "wow" quite like that game.
First game I owned on my first PC a year and a half ago and still great.

Flight Simulator 2004 is absolutely terrible. How can you say the graphics are good? Everything still looked exactly the same as flight sim for windows 95. It was absolutely horriffic, and i wasted 4 cd-r's on it. ugh. you cant even crash into the ground or anything. You just bounce right up. And again, the graphics are terrible. how can you even compare doom 3 to flight sim?? if flight sim had graphics like doom 3, flight sim would be the only game on the market.

Re: What games really impressed you on the PC?
Planescape Torment. The amount of things to do, the way your characters interact with each other, The story twists and turns. It was just an incredible game. Best pc rpg I've ever played.

EDIT:
Yea, but get try to get Warchest "instead" of Crusader so you can have the extra stuff in Crusader as well. It's a tight game.
i ment instead.

Re: What games really impressed you on the PC?
Doom
X-Com (Enemy Unknown, Terror from the Deep & Apocalypse)
Quake II
Command & Conquer (+ Red Alert)
Dungeon Keeper
Age of Empires
Anachronox
Half-Life
Deus Ex
Planescape Torment
Uplink
Evil Genius
There's plenty more I can't think of right now that deserve to be there though. Hopefully Darwinia will join them when it comes out :D

Re: What games really impressed you on the PC?
How is "Evil Genius"? Is it a very cool, but crash-n-burn replay value of a game (such as Neighbors from Hell), or is it very cool and has good replay value of many options?
btw Dark Ride, go up a few and check my previous post again.

I don't think it really has the replay value that say Dungeon Keeper had, but it does have a lot of better things (e.g. in the lifetime of a game in EG, you only have to build two bases compared to 20+ in DK :D)

Re: What games really impressed you on the PC?
half-life was really good when it came out.

for someone who doesn't know wtf he's talkin about you make a pretty stupid argument. first off, your computer sucks, get a better one, then you can truly experience what FS2004 is supposed to be, and comparing Fs2004 to the 95 is like comparing gold to shit, it ain't gonna happen. secondly, add-ons dumbass. apparently that word is not in your vocabulary, work on that too. and let me tell you something, realism wise, flying a plane that handles like it should and has the graphical outcomes of something that is just truly awe-inspiring beats the living daylights out of a FPS that has demons in it that are also graphically superior than other games out on the market. Now, what is more real? Furthermore, FS2004 came out a year b4 Doom3 and uses a totally diff. engine than Doom3, so let me be the first to say
STFU AND GTFO.
FS2004 owns anyday.

Re: What games really impressed you on the PC?
 cpt azad! go go go!
For those who like WW2 air combat simulation, IL2-Sturmovik is the best. well, there will be another one coming out. the Pacific Fighters! the same developer of IL-Sturmovik (same engine too) :D

In FS2004 you get to, wait for it, fly a plane.
Wow. I mean really wow. You could have the world's greatest graphics and the realism cranked up to full for all I care. The whole concept is dull as dishwater and twice as lame.
LAN parties at your place must be a riot.
Edit: Though to be fair I expect FS2004 "owns" the flight simulators, and it's probably better than any train driving simulators, or cross-channel ferry simulators or Driving to Work During Rush Hour Simulator 2004....

Re: What games really impressed you on the PC?
Dune 2000 n' Wolfenstein 3d.
Those games really rawked back in the day.
As did half-life, first time I saw it.
Oh, and then there was Moonstone.
And a whole bunch of games for the c64.
I had low standards back then, I suppose.
-
Re: What games really impressed you on the PC?
Oh yeah! Dune 2000. the sequel, Emperor Battle for Dune not bad too. One of the earliest 3d RTS. ;)
-
Re: What games really impressed you on the PC?
Half-life was one of those FPS that I enjoyed the most. Storyline sucks you in.
btw, anyone know what you classify games such as "Devil May Cry" as? I was wonder if there were any like that one for PC? That'd be awsome.

No. Its not truly nice to play games with keyboards. but i do have joypads. the thing is DMC requires excellent graphics card to play with i think. if they make it for pc.

The review mentions the game's hardware requirements are pretty steep for an RPG.
Now I'm bored as sheit and in dire need of a game, preferrably multiplay. Can you mates compare Morrowind to some other RPGs so I can get an idea what it's like? (Anyone compare it to eg WoW?)
Cheers,

Cheers,
It's very much a single player game and it's one of those games you'll either love or hate (trite cliche I know).
The gaming area is absolutely huge and if you just do the "core" quest missions then you'd be missing out on a lot. In some ways it's comparable to GTA: Vice City in that you can do whatever you want, in a way it's actually more open ended because you can choose a class (wizard, warrior, thief, etc) and specialise in that.
The atmosphere is unique, it's a very immersive game Bethesda have taken the time to create a believable world. It's more action orientated than, say, Baldur's Gate in that it's a first person type game with strong RPG elements.
Your best bet (if you have a broadband connection) is to download it from Suprnova (it's 700megs approx) and try it out for yourself. Though don't blame me if you lose a few months of your life to the game.
Edit: The Game of the Year version includes the expansions I believe so for your money you're getting a HUGE game.
