Am trying to burn my XP slipstreamed with sp2 using Nero 6.3. Problem is, my OEM xp is 795mg and together with sp2 it is obviously too big for the cd. Is there a way I can reduce the file size so that I can burn it?

I used AutoStreamer from Neowin at autopatcher. com or .org (Google). And the .iso file it created from XP corp & SP2 is less than 600MB. Easy as pie. GL.
I used Autostreamer too, but the file it gave is over 900mg!!
Can't think it is possible to burn it on to cd. Maybe it is because it is an OEM that it is so big?
Sounds wrong. Sounds like a recovery disk not a complete version.
I also slipstreamed using Paul Thurrotts guide, but the file was still too big to burn.
Any suggestions please?
Is it an iso or something that it comes out with? just go into nero, click recorder, burn image, point to the iso file, then go to burn. What it actually burns isn't that big.
yes, it is an iso, but whenh I try to burn, Nero says the disk does not have enough space on it. (New disk 700Mg)
Still it doesn't sound like an XP install disk. Bet you have a recovery disk that is proprietary.
It is just the original Compaq xp recovery disk that came with the machine.
If you have hi speed internet then it's probably best if you just download a copy of windows xp corp with sp2 in it already.
I did try that actually, but when I tried to burn it, I just couldnt get it to work. Got totally confused about bin and cue files, and although I tried to follow the sticky, I didn't manage to do it. Old age I think! Very sad....:(
if that's the case, i suggest u use another simpler software: alcohol 120%
with this app, all u have to do is to use the "Image Burning Wizard" and choose the right cue file (u dun have to care bout the bin file, but make sure both of them are always together in the same folder).

Just go into Nero Burning Rom. Click 'recorder' at the top>'burn image'>point to the cue file (make sure the cue and bin files were in the same folder)>then burn it.Quote:

OK. I am downloading a copy of xp corp now, and will report back when I have it.
Many thanks for the help so far.
See, I was correct.:P
I just used Auto Streamer and it took less that 30 min . from start to finish . :01: Great program ,almost idiot proof . I put the xp disk in d:/ and the sp/2 disk in e:/ . It did the rest. Thanks Rossco!Quote:

kennyboy sorry, but you're being a bit dense here. You DON'T have an XP install disk. You only have an oem recovery disk. THAT's the PROBLEM.
NOTHING else.
Yes sorry. I am struggling to understand it all so would ask you to bear with me if you can. Still trying to learn you see.
Just thought I had Win xp on disk, and that was what I needed, and could slipstream from that.
Anyway, am downloading a corporate edition now, and will come back for more help when finished.
Thanks to all.
No problem. Learning is admirable. Glad to help.
Slipstreamed? You got your copy from Rommie? :lol:Quote:

Put them in the same folder on the desktop, and asked Nero to burn the image by pointing it at the cue file.
Nero says "unable to open the bin file. An error occurred while loading the cue sheet file"
Does this mean that after all that downloading which is pretty slow here, it is somehow corrupted?
Any help really appreciated

search again and you should find that emule also has a .cue file with the same name as the .bin file. download it then put it in the same folder as the bin file, and open it with nero and it should work.Quote:

Haha. Peat, don't think I will ever be expert in anything, but I sure as hell love to try to learn. Maybe just a bit slow on the uptake.Quote:

ok. It burned with Alcohol ok with no reported errors.
Can you go through how to test it to see if it works before I try to install please.
Unbelievably, I seem to have managed to get the image mounted with Alcohol 120. Certainly comes up with the Windows install window anyway, so hopefully it will work. Is there anyway of really testing it to see if it will install ok before I go any further?
Funny ,I know what you mean Kenny . I thought the same thing with the slip streaming program I used . So i tryed to boot from cd-rom , all seemed fine . :DQuote:

I'd just go for it.
Oh before your format make sure the cd is bootable (restart with it in the drive and see if it says "press any key to boot from cd..."
Ok. Many many thanks for all the help and advice from people here.
Am going to spend the day backing everything up, and hopefully install tomorrow. Only thing I am concerned about now is whether the key that I have will allow me to use Windows update, but I will come back and report on that later.
A lot of people seem to want the Windows Corp from me now on Emule, so I hope it is ok for them!
Great to know there are so many people here willing to help when I need it.
Thanks again to all. Have learnt a lot.
Regards
Kenny
@kenny if you have a Xp corp version you should be fine. As long as it doesn't start with fckgw......... :D Check your PM I sent a key changer link. :)
Edit: If you have trouble , follow this .
Quote : So, install Windows, update the key, then run Windows Update, in that order.
Just a final word here.
At last have Corporate installed and it seems ok. Had a slight problem because the bin that I downloaded reported a missing file. (*.dll) As I had no idea how to deal with it, I used a Corp (iso) that I downloaded at the same time, and this seems ok.
Used Peats link for a Key Changer...held my breath when using Windows Update, and......it worked.
Really grateful to all who helped, and feel I have gained a little more knowledge myself. Long way to go, so will be a lot more questions in the future I expect.
Just wanted all here to know how much I appreciate the help, even if it is frustrating for them to help such a slow learner.
With Thanks
Kenny
