[DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
As I'm trying to make a back-up of a movie and I need to fit it on a regular dvd-r I have to cut out some stuff.
But I'm not sure which of the two Audio files for the main movie I can leave out.
AC3 5.1-ch English
or
DTS 5-ch English
http://premium.uploadit.org/Filliz/back-up.JPG
My guess is that the AC3 5.1-ch English is Suround, but I'm not sure.

Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
DTS is the best sound available but not every DVD player supports it.
So I would choose for AC3 5.1-ch English and disable the DTS.
But if you only back-up the main movie I think you can have both audio streams.
-
Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
Take out the DTS. Its higher quality but unless you have 6 top quality speakers with the best system around your not gonna hear the difference.
-
Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
I already took out all the extras, but it's still too big.
And I would like to keep the menu though.
I'll have to check if my dvd-player supports DTS but i think it does.
It's a KISS DP-500.

I would still uncheck the DTS even if your DVD player supports it, or remove the menu, I always delete menus if the DVD is 2 big I prefer quality instead of having a menu with less picture quality.

Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
I just see that you are going to compress the DVD to 55% of the original quality???
I would NEVER do that, delete that menu inmediatly :P
settings I would use:
only backup the main movie with AC3 5.1-ch English sound and dutch subs.
Backup with the settings in the picture this way the quality will become much better (disavantage is that it would take double the time for the back-up process)

Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
Shit! :o
I thought DVDShrink compressed at highest quality possible automaticly.
Thanks for informing me on that one. :)

Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
Got a problem here.
I cancelled the back-up to change the settings as you provided, but when I click back-up again it just continues the back-up from the point where I cancelled.
I exited DVDShrink so I could start fresh, but it still continues from where I cancelled.
How can I make it so that it just starts from the beginning?

Go to the folder where you wanted to save the files for the backup. delete all the files and try again.

yeah,I kinda figured i had to do that. :01:
And that's the problem,I chose "My Documents" as target folder but there's nohing in there.
Think I'll have to search my C: now.
edit: found it! :01:
Deleted the folder.
restarted DVDShrink and it still resumes the back-up at the point where I cancelled it.

Folders that will be created are:
Video_ts and Audio_ts
-
Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
read my edit.
found the folder.
It was just an empty map.
No Video_ts and Audio_ts folders in it or anywhere else, although I checked "create Video_ts and Audio_ts folders".

Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
Got a burning problem now.
I followed the guide by adster for making the back-up.
Actually first this guide but I found it's not nearly as good.
Anyway,I started to burn the back up onto a dvd-r (imation) and after almost 2hours of burning (4x) it stopped and gave me this message:
http://premium.uploadit.org/Filliz/neroscrew.JPG
"illlegal disc".
Is this because of the copy protection?
Did DVDShrink fail to remove it properly?
Or something else?
At the time that the burn process got aborted,Nero was burning the VTS_01_4.VOB.

Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
if you burn @ 4 speed it should only take 16 min. to fully burn a DVD-r
Did you select 'DVD-Video' etc... moved all the files (the files from the video_ts folder on your HD) in the 'red' folder that was auto created?
DVD Shrink always removes all protection.
Try it again and select 'simulation' (simulatie) in the burning menu and burn with 2X speed.
-
Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
did u check "remove protection" in all the menus?
i have found it best to set the size to ~4400Mb (just less that it says - there may be an option "-5%", not at my pc to check right now)
and have you got it set to region free?

"remove protection" : Never seen an option where I had to check that.
Where should that option be for me to check?
I thought DVDShrink would do that for me.
And I didn't do region free because Adsters said in his guide that he sometimes has problems with the discs when setting it to region free.
I chose region 2 (Europe,that's where i'm at).

Yep.
Chose dvd-video,moved all the files to where they should go.
Will try the 'simulation'.Hope that helps.
I did put in the dvd-r in my player and it does play the movie (with subs) up to an 1 hour and half.
When I look at the disk it does seem as it has been fully written, except for a small, neglectable part of it. Although i'm pretty sure that I didn't cross the 4.5Gb when making the back up.
sidenote: your message only appeared after I replied to Vivitron's.
It's not the first time I noticed this.Something's buggy in VB.

Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
What you also can do is first burn it on a DVD-rw. if it goes wrong you dont need to throw it away.
-
Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
Ive found the best way to do this is to backup to an ISO image, then mount the image and watch it, if all good I use Alcohol to put the ISO on disc. Ive never had one not work this way yet...
-
Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
What is actually the difference between burning a movie and simulting it?
edit: simulation failed
Writing eror!
Burning another back up now.
Let's hope that one turns out ok.
-
Re: [DVDShrink]Main movie:What audio can I leave out?
Yay :01:
The other back up burned perfectly
Guess I did cross the 4.5G limit with the first back up.
Don't see any other explanation for it.
It only took me 3 DVD-r's :D
Didn't have any dvd-rw's to do a test burn. :(

If you have DVD Shrink installed check this:
C:\Program Files\DVD Shrink\Web\Guides.htm
