A Windows 98 cd that doesn't work (maybe)
I found a cd copy of windows 98 that doesn't seem to work. The disk will go to the main menu, but if I try to click on any of the options from the menu, a pop up will appear that says "Please reinsert your Windows 98 CD-ROM."
I've tried ignoring the message, I tried reinserting the cd, and I've tried placing the cd into another cdrom drive, but that same pop up message appears.
I was wondering if there were any suggestions on correcting this problem before I try to obtain another copy of windows 98. Thanks. :)
Re: A Windows 98 cd that doesn't work (maybe)
To install 98 you have to format windows then restart with the cd in and let it boot into setup.
Re: A Windows 98 cd that doesn't work (maybe)
Thanks for the reply, Rossco. I did try that on the computer that I want windows 98 on. I was able to partition and format the harddrive, but after that, the pc won't do hardly anything with the 98 cd. The weird thing is, I can get into the directory, but I can't run anything via commands. :(
After all that, I wanted to test the cd on my main pc to see if the disk is okay (that's what my first post is about). I would presume that when a menu is displayed, one should be able to choose a feature instead of getting a message that says reinsert the cd rom.
If you have any other ideas on the installation or the 98 cd, please lemme know. Thanks. :)

Well, I decided to get another cd and it seems to work perfectly.
Thanks anyway. :)
Re: A Windows 98 cd that doesn't work (maybe)
you couldve tried copying the damaged disc on your hard drive and then burning a new one
by the way if your into 98 try 98Lite

It's amazing how many still use win98 ! If you can with minimum requirements switch to Win2k.

Sure it does! Funny thing, what I hated about win98 SE was defragging troubles. :P

not too much of an annoyance, remember 98 had to be rebooted quite often because of performance issues, would get so sluggish after about 2 weeks anyway, so thats when I would do my defrag.
Yeah, know about my sig, I don't have an updated url :(

@Rperry & Rossco, My trick with defragging Win98 was a program called enditall, Its hard to find the free version but it's out there!

I wish I would have known about that one. Well, I do have another old computer so maybe I'll try 98lite if I can't use win2000 like peat_moss suggested. Thanks. :)

I think it was an ISO that came from suprnova. When I originally got it, it said that it was a full version. When it didn't work, I tried emule and got two more copies (both full versions)- the first was an ISO that did the same as the one from suprnova, the other was a rar file that work perfectly once unzipped and burnt to cd.
Re: A Windows 98 cd that doesn't work (maybe)
So your problem is fixed now ?
