been looking at a few forums re: half-life 2 (for example) and as soon as a new version is released it seems to be released on fasttracker first...what is this network and how can one get in on it...?

Don't get games of FastTrack.
They're mostly fakes or they'll get corrupted.

erm, yeah, dont use Fasttrack for getting Half Life 2. For that, probably EMule and Bit Torrent.
