UK 3 min silence for Tsunami victims

i was at work and everyone went silent and i was wondering why and then i saw on tv but some people in my office were in the middle of a call and talked all the way through :D and i remembered when i was in college and i walked into class days after 9/11 and went "hey guys!" not aware there was a silence across the country and my lecturer told me to 'Shhh!' and everone looked at me :) but how come there was a silence for 3000 deaths after 9/11 - no silence for 50,000 Iran earthquake victims - but a 3 min silence for tsunami victims - have one for all or none at all that's what i say and you know that's fair you fuckin maggots the doctor is out.

wtf...

i remember when we had a minute silence for 11/9 victims. i asked a teacher why we dont bother about the many thousands of iraqis and afghans killed, he said to ask another teacher http://moderation.forumflash.com/sty...ault/PWNED.gif

I forgot at 12 so I'm having my 3 minutes now...

i dont get what a minute of silence does. normally i'd be planning a lesson rather than praying or whatever i'm supposed to do

I'm told I snored through it. :(

I think the whole 1 minute silence is useless and I never do this. I always say: 1 minute silence doesnt help the people who need help.

Maybe it's not about helping them but respecting the dead and mourning their loss.

No-one is advocating mourning for everyone one who dies in the world so your post is largely irrelevant. At times of great tradegy I think it is a sign of respect to have a minute's silence.

i just think its misguided. we seem to mourn what the media thinks is cool, just because its in the public eye. if there was brits involved to give eye-witness accounts and videotape the earthquake in iran we'd be silent for that too.

There was a minute's silence for the Iran tradegy... :unsure:

I don't think the Iran earthquake was anything near the tradegy this is

I was too, and in fact I gave it another four hours to make sure they got some proper silence.
