noooooooooooooo keep 98!.... 98! 98! lol
i know that xp doesnt allow chrome and neogeo doesnt work on it
i dunt have xp but thatz wat i heard
I only definately know Grand Theft Auto 2. All new-er games will work with XP. Give us a list of programs or games that you want and we'll see if we know whether they're compatible or not.
dunt upgrade.... noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo lol save 98!
Keep 98?? No fargin way... 98 is the most unstable peice of junk currently used today...
If you want rock-solid stability, get 2000 (Pro).
If you want stabilty and gaming, get XP (Pro, NOT Home).
actaully there is a neogeo fix out there to work on xp.....my neighbour has it....i'll post the hash tomorrow......as for gamin and apps...dos games are a no no in xp....some games if you use to the compatiblity wizard to run them in the respective windows os they run find.....same for apps....
my advice..... am.......upgrade to xp pro if u are.....use the key generator and hack i posted in the verified section.....otherwise stick to 98se
i like xp.....no problems so far.....i guess once your pc can handle xp you should upgrade...i have a p4 2.0 and 256 ram and a 80 gig hd....so...upgrade only if your pc can support xp...it needes at least 128 mb of ram to run stablely(is that a word)
the young ones in my family had trouble with their catz, dogz and babyz series under XP. Oneof my friends also claims problems with Age of Emps 2 (maybe microsoft upgraded protection with that) but other than that i havent had any trouble and all newer games will work. Pro i better than home.
actually you can use any kin of programs on xp there is a uttilite in the help system that will convert files for you just tall it what os it is supposed to be used in

My main concern is games like Half-Life, RTCW, Baldur's Gate 2, Tropico, GTA3, etc., etc. Also apps like Photoshop, TMPGenc, Virtualdub, Nero...
Compatibility List. You can check on software, hardware, games, etc that work/won't work under XP. Take a look, see what details are provided as well.
Thanks CornerPocket, that's exactly what I needed!
What the hell are you talking about? WINDOWS ME IS THE MOST UNSTABLE OS!!! I read a magazine which states that Windows 98 is the OS everyone uses, but the mag is half a year old.Quote:

Half life, GTA3 and Photoshop work i have not tryed the othere games but all my games i have work on xp with a little work :D
generally
new things in
old things out.... lol
I'm not sure about this list. It says a number of games that don't work on XP, but yet here I am, running XP, and able to play the ones that say I shouldn't be able to. Of course, this only works for the games that I do have, but oh well. ;)
Edit: I'll list the ones I got running that say I shouldn't. Yes. I have too much free time.
Age Of Empires: The Conquerors (Microsoft)
Beneath a Steel Gray Sky (Unknow)
Betrayal at Krondor (Unknow)
Black Moon Chronicles (Cryo Interactive)
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain (Unknow)
Daggerfall (Unknow)
(Just an interlude to say that I've never tried running Final Fantasy on my computer, because I have a PS for that. ;))
Gabriel Knight 1 CD (Sierra)
Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade (Unknow)
King's Quest 7 (Sierra)
Kings Quest 8 (Sierra)
Phantasmagoria 2 (Sierra)
Pirates Gold (Unknow)
Pirates! Gold for Windows (Unknow)
Populous (Bullfrog)
Populous 2 (Unknow)
Quest for Glory 4 (Unknow)
Quest for Glory 4: Shadows of Darkness (Unknow)
Riven CD (Unknow)
Seven Cities of Gold (Unknow)
Sim Theme Park (Bullfrog)
The Elder Scrolls: Arena (Bethesda Softworks)
The Longest Journey (Unknow)
Thief (Unknow)
Ultima 7 (Unknow)
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? (Unknow)
Now it should be painfully obvious what kinds of games I play. :P
:ninja:
maybe patches upgrade it...

I guess it's a toss up... 98 and ME = Both crap.
The reasons everyone uses 98? Super compatible, and... no one knows any better. Also, they don't have the processing power to hang with XP... Unless you have a new(er) computer, you can't handle anything above 98. In the grand scheme of things that is...
I know I tried Iomega Hotburn on XP, and couldn't get it to work. Not a big deal if your using Nero or something like that, but I use Iomega to get the track titles to show on my CD player without having to be programed :(
Only game that I have not been able to get working is Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. Yea 3 is cool but I still like 2 as well. That sucks. THen again I dual boot with win99 so I can play fine. :P
cya,
Will
there is a way to run older games on xp by right cliking on .exe for the game and enable it to run in the compatiablity mode a good majority of older games should work. But dont hold me to this i have only heard this from others
When I upgraded to xp I didn't have any software issues. The problem was hardware. My printers, Video game controllers and alot of USB devices. The thing that pissed me off was i had a microsoft precision pro 2 ( joystick made BY <_< MICROSOFT  ) and it no longer works. Man WTF!! what a joke.
That's another one of my big concerns. Will I be able to use my Gravis Eliminator in XP? Will my ancient Plustek scanner still work? What about Dazzle - I hear bad things about that. Anyone?Quote:

XP has a compatability mode enabling any games/software to be run by selecting the properties of the *.exe file and choosing compatabilites ---> then run in mode ........ allowing you to run 95, 98, ME, 2000 progs on XP if you have any problems :) atleast it's worked for me so far, but then again it is made by microsoft....... hope this helps :D
Windows 2000 Pro all the way! :w00t:
