Hell, try google. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...+5.0+uninstall Search the net for people who have the same problem that you do. I just learned that not even a minute ago.Quote:

Have teied that, just comes up with the way id normally use....Control Panel- Add/Remove :(
I have that Java runtime version also. I never encountered anything regarding uninstalling one version prior to installing the next. Just install update 2 and you should be fine. However, I do have that "change/remove" option available through my control panel's uninstall applet. You may be missing a file or log that the installer requires to make the necessary changes. Hard to tell.
You may be able to simply run the same .exe file that you used to originally install that version of JRSE 5.0 . It should detect that it is already installed and hopefully give you the options of "repairing", "modifying" or "removing" the software. Most of your major applications do. Some do not. You could also utilize a third-party application that forcibly removes/uninstalls software. Or simply go to http://java.sun.com and search through their FAQs pages for references to your problem. Or even email them. They do offer support for their products. Though the process of doing so might be abit on the slow side. :)
Did anything come up specifically that actually says that the software un-installation failed? XP has a horrible reputation of having software entries remain visible on your installed programs page even after it is gone. Just a glitch could be all that it is. Your registry may not recognize that it is gone. In which case (assuming it is) you would have to do a manual registry edit to correct the problem.Quote:

Pretty simple to use. Has its own section for "Uninstalled Items".
try downloading and isntall/reinstalling the old version.
eitehr it will work and write the add/remove entry back, OR you might be lucky and the installer will say repair or remove and you can choose remove. :)
am trying, cant find the version i need:Quote:

I agree with rossco, reinstalling the old version, then uninstalling should workQuote:

look in:
1. C:\Program Files\
delete the "Java" folder
2. C:\Program Files\Common Files\
delete the "Java" folder
3. C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\
delete the "Sun" folder
4. C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\
you should see a folder with a long ass string of numbers & letters,
something like this: {7148F0A6-6813-11D6-A77B-00B0D0142060}
open that folder, and it should be the java installer, if so delete the folder
that covers all the usual suspects i think,
then clean the registry, and see if you can then install a fresh JRE
Hvae tried above, hasnt worked, what regcleaner u reccommend?
i have used regseeker in the past, no complaints, and its free
regcleaner is also free, and i've seen it recommended as well
i do believe both make backups of entries they remove (regseeker i know does)
so you can restore easily if needed
Ahhhh still cant get rid of them, is there a way i can just remove it from th Add/Remove?? Its pretty much uninstalled,
in regseeker, theres an "installed applications" selection in the main menuQuote:
