Possibly Building a comp?
Ive been thinking maybe for my B-day I could ask my uncle if he could buy me the stuff yo build a comp. This is the stuff ive come up with so far I think its too expensive when you add it all up (1066.99 + shipping). Could you guys maybe point me to some other parts that would be good for gaming but cheaper like ram and whatnot  To get it under 1000$ would be great, id like a good gaming rig and you guys know whats good and whats not some give me some imput :) BTW: I LIKE THAT CASE!!! but for some of you who have it tell me what the pros and cons of it.
Heres the links to the merchandise.
Mobo
Case
CPU
Hard Drive
Ram
Vid card :D
CD Drive

Re: Possibly Building a comp?
I'd recommend a DfI motherboard, if you're planning on overclocking
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...136-151&depa=1
The psu that comes with that case, uber sucks, so you really wont be able to oc if you use that type of psu.
Seeingg you're considering getting a low cas latency ram, im seeing you're planning on overclocking your processor ?
i'd recommend a ram with 2-2-2-5 cas latency.
BTW, why spend 125$ on a retail ram ? I have western digital 160GB SATA , i got for only 95$. And it works great.
I'd recommend a dvd drive/burner like this, instead of that cd drive
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...152-035&depa=1

Re: Possibly Building a comp?
I dont know if i wanna overclock anything... I just thought that lower latency = better

Re: Possibly Building a comp?
What CPU? Your link leads to a MS mouse...
I think you are paying a premium for bling with the Fatality board.
This Gigabyte is more fully featured for $60 less.
Patriot ram is what I'll be using on mine.
F1 is correct about the included PSU...don't even think of trying to use it.

and how do you expect to be paying for all this

yeah i'd recommend that ram since it has the exact same cas latency as the Corsair and its cheaper (about 20$ cheaper)
For a cpu the amd athlon 64 3000+ skt 939 is good enough, plus its only like 150$ and performs as good as a p4 3.2Ghz.
And i'd go with clocker's suggestion, the gigabyte motherboard is a better bu, if you arent planning on overclocking anything...

anyway, i would go with what clocker posted for the mobo
DFI, ECS, Foxconn, etc.....i just hear too much bad shit about em
(ECS i KNOW are shitty, i have had to deal with a few of them on old intel systems)
and, if you are not particularly partial to ATi....
you can save probably 100 bucks by going with a 6600GT video card
only thing is its half the bus width i believe (128 vs 256)

Yeah 6600GT is of coarse cheaper, but it only has 128MB. And also i've out, its performance is better than a 9800pro but certainly not better than the x800xl.
I'd personally recommend a 6800 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...122-207&depa=0
Im not sure how it performs against the x800xl

I have the exact same case you were planning to get. The case itself is well designed. One of the good things about it is that the fan ontop of the case, makes a good air exaust. But anyways the psu that came is surprisingly powering up all the stuff in my signature, but then again you x800 may have problem handling it. The 2 fans are a little loud, but im used to it.
bTW if i were on tight budget like you (im guessing you want to spend 1000$ or less ? ) . The amd 3200 would be good enough, because its 77$ cheaper.

Don't you like already have 1GB of Ram and a 6600GT?

I wish :crying:
@VB: yes a winchester core would be the real mccoy, I'll have to look on newegg more and try to find 1.
@Formula1: Nice, with these 2 antec fans i put in my comp t here pretty loud  but im used to it shouldnt be a problem. If i do get that case ill probbly put these fans in there if theres anywhere to put em ;)
One question I have about the stuff ive picked out is, would everything run fine and would anything there cause a bottleneck? :pinch:
Also are "OEM" packages refurbished comp parts?

No: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...roperty&DEPA=1
Edit: That link doesn't seem to work... Try this: http://www.newegg.com/app/manufact.a...log=343&DEPA=1
and select Manufacturer - AMD and Core - Winchester.

OEM means "Original Equipment from Manufacturer". If you buy an OEM cpu, then it would come with the cou itself , and no heatsink. And also it wouldnt come with a manufacturer warranty on it.

Re: Possibly Building a comp?
Actually, AMD OEM chips come with a 1 year warrantee.
The retails have 3 years.

Winchester cores use 90nm technology so they can run at lower voltages, 1.4V usually - the Newegg specs are probably wrong. This has 2 effects - they run cooler, and they are generally easier to OC should you feel inclined.

Re: Possibly Building a comp?
Um ok, Lets say if i was to get all this shite which i dont think i will but yea... the 350 watt psu that the case comes with wont be enough to power everything properly? I dont plan on overclocking anything ;)

Re: Possibly Building a comp?
Well the psu that came with my case is able to power evrything in my sig. But the voltages are quite unstable, and it seems when i try to burn something, my pc will freeze. I'd highly recommend buying a diff power supply. If you dont have enough money i would recommend getting the athlon 3200 instead of 3400.

Not a bad approach at all.
PSUs can be the source of many problems and we don't want problems now, do we?

3500 *
@clocker, no we dont want problemos :pinch:

Actually, we thrive on other people's problems.
It's you that doesn't want them.

Re: Possibly Building a comp?
So if 350 might not be able to keep that baby stable, what would be thr right amount of power for it?

It isn't about quantity, it's about quality.

The point was that for that price for a case and PSU the quality simply could not be there.
A 350W PSU may work just fine but I'd go for something a bit bigger, especially since you are considering an X800 compared to a 9600. The thing is to get a good PSU, not just one that claims to be able to pump out mega-amps.

Re: Possibly Building a comp?
Sorry to bump this thread but ive got a question about the Cd drive. Is the cd drive supposed to come with the ide cable(s)? The one i picked out is an oem and just comes with the drive and some cd  I know the mobo comes with cabes but does it come with a cabe for a cd drive?
Also, is the ram that ive picked out "Dual channel"? And could some1 explain what dual channel ram does like how its different from others?
lynx said with that video card im gonna need some good power, how much power would you guys suggest? :ermm:
-
Re: Possibly Building a comp?
Power is not important, brand is.
Dual Channel just makes your ram work much faster together, stick the two sticks of ram next to each other to Dual Channel.
OEM means you get nothing, maybe an update cd and sometimes Nero if your lucky, but no cables or screws.
Mobo should come ith IDE cables, hard drives and CD/DVD units use IDE. Some newer Hard Drives use SATA which is a faster smaller cable.

"Dual channel"ing is implemented on the motherboard, not the RAM*... read your manual to see the exact order to install your memory.
This can/will vary by board, so make sure you understand it...the sometimes fractured Engrish in manuals (and even BIOS) makes this confusing.
If you have succeeded, you'll see that your memory is running in dual channel on the POST screen when you boot up.
Some boards, even when running dual channel, perform better with the RAM shifted around...for instance, you might get better benchmarks using channels 2 & 4 instead of 1 & 3- even though both are technically correct.
*WTF is "dual channel"?
