PS3 Reviled, but not what you think...

The DESR-7700 and 5700 are nearly identical to the previously released PSX DESR-7500 and 5500 models, respectively, in terms of hardware, meaning that the DESR-7700 comes with a ghost reduction tuner and the 5700 does not. The DESR-7700 also comes with a connection for broadcast satellite (BS) and an i.Link (DV) connection.

Aside from having the features available in the older models, the new PSX will let owners download recorded video (such as TV programs) onto a Memory Stick Duo and transfer it to a PSP. The PSX will automatically convert video to the MPEG4 format the PSP uses when users download it to the Memory Stick Duo. A 512MB Memory Stick Duo can hold up to 110 minutes in 384kbps low-quality mode or up to 60 minutes in 768kbps high-quality mode. Notice that the Memory Stick Duo is different than Memory Stick, so an adapter is essential if you already own a Memory Stick.

Unfortunately, the encoding process when making PSP videos is a bit on the slow side. To compress videos at 768kbps, you'll, the system takes 5x the length of the clip. The 384kbps data rate is 4x the length of the clip. This means that an hour clip will take between five and four hours before you have a PSP version ready.

Sony actually recommends compressing while you sleep, as while the PSX is creating PSP movies, you can't access the menus, play DVDs, view the channel guide or surf channels. The system can record television programs in the background, though, so if you want to record something late at night during compression sessions, you'll still be able to. Also, you can group together up to fifteen recordings to be compressed simultaneously, and can store compressed programs on the PSX itself, although the compressed programs cannot be played back on the PSX.

Sony announced that it will release a new firmware patch for two PSX models on May 17. The update will give the PSX DESR-7500 and DESR-5500 the same capability as the latest PSX models. The patch can be either downloaded from the Internet or put on a CD and shipped to customers by Sony.

All i have to say is Bullshit. All i (and hopefully some other people, who arent into handhelds) just want is a system that can play games and dvd movies. Not something that will be over priced just because it comes with a hard and dvd recorder. If i want something similar to that I would just get a DVR (200$ ?price?), but i really dont need that. BTW PSX and PS3 are two different systems coming out, according to what i read a long time ago. Psx will have recording abilities, while the ps3 wont...

Im much happier with my slim ps2 then getting that $500-750 machine.

Although it has more features, but if I wanted to watch a show I missed.. i would just d/l it then record it :rolleyes:

The PSX did/was suppose to come out about 1-2 years ago. Nobody seemed intrested, and it costed way to much. It was $1000 reatail when it came out. The reason there re-relreasing it is becuase of the PSP. They both use memory sticks, so you can transfer data between them. Thats there gimmick there going to play out. Plus i am not sure but they might make it like the GC, where you can use the psp as a controller. It is something cool, i might get it. Kind of a waste of money tho.

I thot PSX was stop producing. I read at local gaming magazine. :unsure:

New Dvd recorder, New Hard drive, new USB drive support, New Memory Stick Duo Support, you can use the PSP as a controller, using a new video encoder (much like Xbox 1.0-1.4 used a certain encoder, which 1.5 onwards used a new encoder).

True the PSX may be old news to some, but for me it was new news, also they have made some changes to its original specs that even the mighty Busyman wouldn't have known about.

I always wanted to buy Xbox...but for some reason i had to stick with PS2 and now since my PS2 is not readin any disks(broken).....Now i have good chance of getting Xbox......I think Xbox is way better then any other console out there.....just my thought!

Xbox 360 will be an iferior system to the ps3. Microsoft has stated, that they dont want to focus on graphic, but on the games being made. Witch dosent make sense, becuase the only reason people likes the Xbox is becuase its more powerful.

Like Dave said, alot of new people didnt know anything about a PSX, and even the people who did know hadn't seen this update, i didn't hype it up at all. I copied the text, title and linked to the source. In my opinion Sony are being cunts, big PS2's have stopped selling so they come out with a tiny one that everyone brought and now in a years time they want us to buy this again.
