There are some reviews here. You can't go wrong with a name brand. Boy the prices sure have tropped eh ? Nothing under 3.2 mp and the more mb the better.

I have a Nikon Coolpix 2100 and I love it. You get up to the 4200 these days for under $200. That's my recommendation.
make sure you get the good type of focus(passive). my sister's uses infra-red(active) and the focus is never as good as mine.
and remember to get decent size memory card. if you plan on using for holidays and stuff get a 256 or 512 at least so then you can get a bit of video too, if you want it. :unsure:
