My dad is going to be buying for me Windows Xp Pro S2 Student Version

As I am still a student for the next few months. What I would like to know is since this is an upgrade do I format my HD and do a fresh install with this? Will it ask me for my win98 CD?

Yup, you format first, put that xp disc in, and before setup starts it will just ask for the cd of a previous windows version to make sure you really own an older OS.
Don't just do an upgrade right over 98, it will cause a lot of headaches later. :pinch:

512MB Ram (Will upgrade to 1GB once i have XP)

Win98Se
DVDROM & DVD RW
Sound Blaster
Nvidia 5200FX

as far as I know you cant do a clean install with an upgrade version, this means you need to have win98 installed.
Oh good no problem. The only trouble I 'v seen is some old scanners may not work do to driver issues. And Afronaut, is right ! :D

7. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Windows XP Setup.
