Boffins create zombie dogs

Eerie ... boffins have brought dead dogs back to life, in the name of science.

SCIENTISTS have created eerie zombie dogs, reanimating the canines after several hours of clinical death in attempts to develop suspended animation for humans.

US scientists have succeeded in reviving the dogs after three hours of clinical death, paving the way for trials on humans within years. Pittsburgh's Safar Centre for Resuscitation Research has developed a technique in which subject's veins are drained of blood and filled with an ice-cold salt solution.

The animals are considered scientifically dead, as they stop breathing and have no heartbeat or brain activity.

But three hours later, their blood is replaced and the zombie dogs are brought back to life with an electric shock.

Plans to test the technique on humans should be realised within a year, according to the Safar Centre.

However rather than sending people to sleep for years, then bringing them back to life to benefit from medical advances, the boffins would be happy to keep people in this state for just a few hours,

But even a this should be enough to save lives such as battlefield casualties and victims of stabbings or gunshot wounds, who have suffered huge blood loss.

Although the animals are clinically dead, their tissues and organs are perfectly preserved.

Damaged blood vessels and tissues can then be repaired via surgery. The dogs are brought back to life by returning the blood to their bodies,giving them 100 per cent oxygen and applying electric shocks to restart their hearts.

Tests show they are perfectly normal, with no brain damage.

"The results are stunning. I think in 10 years we will be able to prevent death in a certain segment of those using this technology," said one US battlefield doctor.

Sounds interesting. I think they have been 'playing around' with this idea for a while. I think the original idea was to freeze casualties in war. Did not work though.

If this works my wife will be the first to use it. To bring me 'back to life'.:cry:

I hope they are allowed to continue, now that its out that they've proven it can be done, and if they can find volunteers.

Certain segments dont like people playing God; however if the religious nuts stop it over there, im sure that other countries will benefit from their breakthroughs ;)

The animals are dead, and infact there bringing htem back to life, with no lasting brain damage or any other effects. So infact there taking a dead dog and bringing it back to life as if it had never died.

It does raise an interesting question (if you believe in an afterlife...) of what would happen to the soul during those few hours. Does it hang around waiting for the body to be reactivated? Does it go to Heaven for a few hours and hangs out with its dead relatives and loved ones?

Be interesting to see what people experience whilst clinically dead for so long if they ever do trial this on humans.

I doubt it gets to the human level for a large number of years. Also how do we know about Heaven and such, seing as this is the first of a kind and no one has ever been pulled froom the dead after a few minutes of being dead so theres no real proof or accounts of heaven even existing. Same with ghosts and such, there are alot of inaccuracies in the bible has have already been proven wrong by science so how far can we trust the tradditional view of we die, pass the big ol' gates and chill in heaven for the rest of our days?

The body requires to be still alive and has to be drained of its blood. Do you think they find bloodless dogs in the streets?
Maybe the experiments are conducted somewhere in Transylvania? If so the local dogs will soon have scallion necklaces on them...

I'm no bioligist but i thought the body started breaking down at the cellular level at the point of death,how can they say theres no brain damage to the dogs,do they give them a test or something.Its a scary but amazing experiment,would be fantastic if they could perfect it,they would be able to do all sorts of fantastic life savig ops with this procedure.

Will the dog come back as a different entity? Having to start from 'scratch'. With ony its genes to give it some traits.

On this subject. Many years ago, on a regular basis we had to escort home, a once, eminent psychiatrist who had 'flipped'. Apparently a lot of them do. We used to find this lady, who was married to an eminent MP, outside the local mental establishment. She was throwing food over the wall for 'her friends in the deep freeze'.:cry: Did she 'know' something that we dont?:lol:

I have made provision in my explanation for people to be telling the truth.

Most likely, it will be a costly form of therapy and will remain out of reach for the hoi polloi.

i don't like the idea of this, dead people should be let to stay like that and live on through memories. i reckon it should be the same with everything. i can't really imagine it being more than façadism for humans, they'll never be the same again, the dead should be left to rest

So they are killing dogs to bring them back to life for science. I know this is a major breakthroh but that is truely sick.

If i die, i dont want to be brought back to life, i want it to stay natural. I dont want to be some sort of zombie :angry:

I know I tend to agree with him on the whole cruelty on animals. Yet, I feel that the sacrifice of animals is sometimes necessary.

Your not a zombie though, you will lose no 'brain power' you won't be walking arround ton with your arms up looking for blood its as if you had never died. Infact you could go out and die come back and be home in time for the late night channel 5 porn flick :D

They originally tested the methods on cats, but the cats were determined to be equally brain damaged before and after the testing. They would respond only marginally to any kind of stimulus and would not come when called. :)
