Basically, all you can do is Turn your Monitor off........

are you serious....? , i meant the power thing in Desktop>Properties>Screen saver>power :(
Anyone know how much power an old 17 inch crt monitor takes ?
All that will do is kinda put your Monitor in 1/2 or 1/3 power mode..Quote:

you can't ahve any part of the computer turn off other than the monitor or your downloads would stop :P
If you have multiple drives, you could possibly set them to power down when not in use, but the saving would be minimal.
As everyone else has said, the monitor is the big power hog, particularly older ones. I have mine set to power off after 5 minutes, the temperature difference that makes during a hot summer is quite astounding. And since heat can only come from electricity used...
Do you have a CRT or LCD monitor?
LCDs use less power.
I have an old ibm CRT (6-7 years old lol)... My family pc uses a hp 17" lcd monitor.
My crt uuses 75 watts an hour i think it says on the side of the box somewhere.
