I have an "Epson Perfection 1260 Photo" scanner with the negative adaptor. My problem is; when I attempt to scan negs that are a bit underexposed, the top and bottom of the photo are severely cut off leaving just a thin strip of photo that's readable horizontally down the middle. I realize that I can just go to a photomat and have them done but I have a sh*tload of old negs to scan and why pay a professional to do it if I have all the equipment right here to produce my own photos at a fraction of the cost ? The Epson support website is not https// and requires a ton of personal and technical info to be submitted. Does anyone here have any experience with scanning negs ?
Thanks in advance,
Riddler. :)

I don't know why you are having this problem Riddler, but I have had a bit of experience with scanning negatives from a flatbed scanner, and the results have never been too good.
I too had heaps of slides and transparencies, and I wanted to preserve them on CD's. A friend then lent me a Nikon Coolscan, this was in 95 - 96, the dpi was around 3000. The results were brilliant.
I was thinking that as that was so long ago, there should be secondhand ones around for a reasonable price. Once you've used one, you'll never want to use a flatbed again.

That sounds like a great idea BD, what is it exactly....a portable device ?

This is the latest one I think, 4,000 dpi, tested against an Epson flatbed.

Yikes ! :o Pricey aren't they ?
I'll look around for some used ones & see where it leads.
Thanks BD. :)
