Best Speed Up Tool

hi can anyone advise the best speedup tool for the iternet and my pc.
i would like to stop unwanted files running in the background and also optimise my pc and my broadband connecton .
any advice ?

Ad-Aware: Scan for spyware, sometimes it leeches your internet connection and takes up processes.
Norton Anti Virus: Scan for viruses to improve pc speed/health (if there ARE viruses.)
Finally, go to:
Start
Run
MSCONFIG

Click on the "StartUp" tab and remove the X by unwanted programs starting up.

ah overtweaking... Tweaking does cause problems.. so dont tweak unless your computer is already very slow.
