Re: Oblivion on these specs
its pretty much same as my specs only i have PCI express radoen 800 and my runs smooth and very very nice here you will be fine
Re: Oblivion on these specs
I wish I had a PCI-E motherboard. My machine was such a beast when I got it in September 2004, now it's losing face.
Re: Oblivion on these specs
My old computer has similar specs, you should be able to run it at 'Medium' and 800 x 600 with no problems. Look on the official forums for ini tweaks to bum the fps up some more (stuff like making the grass shorter really makes a difference on a machine like yours).
Don't trust the auto-detect thing as that tends to be a tad optimistic. If you really want to play it at Ultra-High and a good res, buy a new machine. But even then it's not perfect, I average 30fps outdoors with my xt1800xt and 4200 X2...
Re: Oblivion on these specs
My machine does match and exceed the recommended specs, though...
Re: Oblivion on these specs
You will have no problems with oblivion! Especially with that 6800GT!
I have a 6600GT with the latest drivers at 800x600 resolution with HDR enabled and it runs really good! I can imagine with 6800GT!

So does my laptop but it doesn't mean I can play it at ultra-high. With those specs you'll be playing a good-looking smooth game at medium or possibly high settings. With patches, mods and ini tweaks thrown in you'll be laughing.
Re: Oblivion on these specs
Is it just a badly programed game, or do you think it's the death-knell for systems like mine?

A little bit of both. I think Bethesda really struggled to optimize the game for all possible configs out there and it is only through modders that people have been able to get significant fps boosts. But also, I had a system similar to yours which I upgraded wholesale to be able to play this game at max specs.
Re: Oblivion on these specs
I technically don't have time for games now, and I'm trying to save up $3000 for a new camera, hopefully that camera will lead to my business getting off the ground and some considerable income which will let me get a new system :P
Or maybe I'll just win big at the casino.
