they have the same speed. the difference between the official client and mods like emuleplus is some features. emuleplus has some pretty statististics that the official client doesn't have..
it's really up to you. test out a few. i currently use eMule 0.27c sivka MOD v7b2. take a look in the mods forum of the emule board. ;)
