Re: Advice on computer I put together
Looks fine. Might want to get a case without power supply then buy a quality powersupply. The ones that come withcases and usually crap.
Also don't really care for MSI. An asus or abit woud be better, but if your on a budget then msi is ok.
Re: Advice on computer I put together
Is it built yet? If so then why ask us after the fact?
Re: Advice on computer I put together
No it's not built yet. I used the wrong tence in the post.
I was worried about hardware conflicts that I might not have seen. I don't have another set of eyes to go over it here, and I figured asking in the forum might save me some time and aggervation.
Any suggestions that are constructive are more than welcome. If someone knows how I can get better bang for my buck please drop a line.
Re: Advice on computer I put together
Are you wanting to use this for gaming? If so then look at the pinned graphics card guide and go for a high end card.
The DVD combo drive could be replaced with a DVD burner for added flexibility.
Also over $300 on a CPU is a lot. Maybe a little slower is an option?
The price shows $109. not $68.
The RAM also shows $224.
Re: Advice on computer I put together
The case/psu & mobo are inferior imo. Go Antec & Asus my suggestion. GL.:)
Re: Advice on computer I put together
Some of the prices reflect prices after rebates.
Yes, the system will be used for gaming... really a bit of everything. I downloaded doom3 and StarWars Battle Front a little while back and had a terrible time trying to get either of them to go. I decided that it was time for an upgrade form my horrible celeron 1.8 and Gforce MX 400 setup.
If not for the desire to keep it in tack for other things, I imagine that I could canabalise it for drives and ram.
Thanks for pointing out that the drive I picked out was not a dvd burner. I didn't read the discription as close as I should of. That's really the kind of mistake that I wanted to avoid.
I'm not really concerned about the price of the processor. Three-hundred dollars maybe a little steep, but what the hell. At least I know I'm gonna have something that's not destined to be obsolete next week.
As for the graphic card I am really open to suggestions. About $150 is what I want to spend. Won't a RADEON 9800SE be able to run any program out there with ease?
Re: Advice on computer I put together
If you game I would get a better graphics card like the 9800Pro

Thats a $200.00 - $250.00 card. They said they only wanted to spend $150.00
Re: Advice on computer I put together
Perhaps settle with a cheaper cpu, then go for the 9800 pro?
Or better yet keep the cpu and buy the 9800 pro?
I recently bought a 9800 pro out of the conviction that it's better to buy something good that'll last a while (I've had my GF2MX as to this summer)
