that has nothing to do with msn messenger, its the messenegr service for nt os's which allows users to send messages across networks. people now use it to spam people
heres how to disable it:
start>run>services.msc>find messenger on the list, double click it>click stop>now click disable where it currently says automatic...

wow thanx i hope its gone for good thank you

NP! those things are annoying as hell, for the first hour after i first installed windows xp for my first time i was really worried, then i found that fix and have been doing it since.
You wouldnt have had this problem though if you had a firewall :P

While you're in there you might as well turn off Alerter too, and go find a tweak guide and tighten some security holes. Also don't forget Windows update.

Some links in case you're interested in security and system performance.
BlackViper knows all about system services
X-Setup is the ultimate tweaking tool
XP-Antispy is just great.

The contents of the popup are so ironic - it looks a bit like a protection racket or something.
They are creating a problem and asking you for money if you want the problem to be taken away.
Of course it's much better to just block them alltogether. I've never had any on my own computer, but my Dad used to have AOL (hell) and he used to get them like every few minutes. So I had to turn them off for him, and luckily he doesn't use AOL any more anyway !
