The 3200 Winchester you picked* and this Gigabyte board will make a very nice platform to start with. You'll have more SATA (8!), USB (10) and Firewire than a normal person can use and the socket orientation is ideal for aftermarket HSFs.
If you are considering an upgrade to the CPU cooling, be aware that Gigabyte installs a (semi)proprietary socket surround so make sure your unit comes with a full install kit (backplate too).
*The 90nm cores are really the way to go.
Better memory controllers and the 1.4v vCore makes for very cool temps.
So far my new 3500 Winchester is running about 10C less than the 3000 Clawhammer I replaced.

Honestly i'd get this mobo. it's jam packed with more feature, such as "2x pci-16x express slots" . And i believe its one of the best mother boards for overclocking an amd 64
