Wireless network - are these cards OK ?
Hi Guys
I need to connect my 2 PC's both using Windows XP.
I am renting a 3 bedroom house with a downstairs basement. I want to have 1 PC upstairs and 1 in the basement (concrete block walls).
Because I am renting it would not be easy to run cables to connect them so I am wondering if a wireless network would be OK.
All I want to do is to be able to share an Access Database.
I am looking at 2 cards
A 54mbps PCI card or a
Super G 108 mbps
Would either of these be suitable ?
I woud appreciatre any comments.

There shouldn't be any problem with that setup as long as the diagonal angle through any walls isn't too great.

I assume from what you've said that you don't want a separate access point.
In that case you've got 2 options.
1) Get the Asus WL-138g V2 (or the WL-138gE for extended range) with SoftAP for one of the systems - it can act as an access point. You can then use it as a bridge to a wired network or to the internet. This may be available on other Marvell based wireless cards too.
2) Use any wireless cards in Ad Hoc mode. You can still do what you need, but it is messier and connecting the remote pc to the internet is not as simple, but it can still be done.
