Can anyone help me with finding missing codecs? When I try to play movie files downloaded from the net Windows Media Player won't open them. Actually, I get audio, but no video, only a message telling me there's a missing codec file. I think this only happens with avi files, as I can open mpeg files without a problem.

go to sourceforge.net , download the april 24th version of ffdshow and during install, only choose the codecs you don't have as "default direct show filters". Only check the boxes that say "divx" and "xvid" for example. After you install it, you can always check more boxes like "mpeg" to make it decode(play) mpeg and possibly mpeg2 inside the codec section of the ffdshow configuration interface.

Thanks, now it's working perfectly. Much appreciated!
