It can do everything you throw at it. Streaming, 4K, games, Kodi, casting from my phone....anything. It doesn't stutter even a little bit. I'm not sure how much it relies on the primary PC for game graphics however. Like, if you go get a shit computer to install the games on, can you still play them in 4K top quality on your TV via the Nvidia Shield TV? Or is the quality also somewhat dependent on the PC as well? I don't know the answer to that. I just know you have to have 1) a PC with the game(s) you want to play installed on it. 2) Same computer with "Nvidia GeForce Experience" installed.
There is also an option to use Steam "Big Picture" to play specifically Steam games. I'm not sure if you need a PC with Steam installed to do that or not. I cannot advocate for the Shield TV enough tho. I wasn't totally sure about it at first but having owned it for a year now I can easily say it was the best $200 I've spent in a long time.
Hoi skiz...
You still as happy with your Shield as you were when you wrote this? I have been eyeing various streaming media devices (I've been pretty happy with the Amazon fire tv) to occupy my time at my jawb. Thought being able to play more games and steal even more android stuff would be fun, too.
Seems like an easy buy for $169 with tv remote and game controller. Thought I might get some kind of tv-compatible keyboard/mouse device, and a 128gb usb 3.0 at the same time.
Thoughts? Recommendations to go with it? Thanks, looking to dive in soon...

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Heck yeah. It's awesome. I dont use it to really game at all, tho the possibilities are all there. Conviced a buddy of mine to get one as well a few months ago and he really likes it as well. My only complaint was really the short lifespan of the bluetooth rechargeable remote but they recently released an update for it and now I seemingly never charge it.

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Sonofabeesting. I’ve got to spend $100 to get the WW2 version with Carentan?? Fuck all that. I wanna play but imma wait until I see a price drop in a couple months.
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Have I won the internet?
Or is there at least a price drop, after the US fucked up net neutrality? :)

That map for free for like a week then they took it away :emo: 100 US pounds is a bit much... I think it's "free" with the season pass but I guess if you have to buy the base gheym on top of that... Xmas sale on all platforms soon probably :eyebrows:
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Yeah the base is $60 here. The extra pack add on is another $50. So you can just do the season pass for $100 and get all that plus any other stuff they might release I think.
Gamestop has a deal right now where they'll sell a "physical copy" of the base game for $40. 1) I don't even own an optical drive. 2) The last time I bought a physical copy of a game it was Far Cry 3 or smth and it was literally a disc that directed me to the online store to download it.
On another note, I really like some of the open maps on the old game like Brecourt.

Jumped in and purchased! Got the new version (am aware of the changes-- some good, some not-so-great) with remote and game controller, added a USB drive for storage (no longer able to use microSD for storage unless going with the Pro version), and grabbed a nice braided hdmi cable and Logitech 400plus keyboard for TV connected computers. Thank you for your recommendation on this. I expect it will serve me very well without the hassles of the Amazon environment. I just want to find stuff and watch/play it. A bit tired of limited devices and finding work-arounds. All in all, $250 including tax.

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Been having mild abdominal pains for like a week. Nothing too concerning but a little annoying at the same time. Then on Wednesday night it got to hurting super bad. Only slept about 2 hrs. Woke up Thursday and didnt go to work. Was afraid it was the bad aids. Decided to go to urgent care. Urgent care was concerned and said I needed to go to the ER. Off to the ER. The hawt nurse had me get down to my knickerbockers and put on one of those funny robes. She stuck me with an IV to steal half my blood and inject me with dilaudid and poke at my belly a bunch. Then off for a cat scan. Turns out it was something called diverticulosis and it's something pretty much everyone has at some point. All took about 4 hours. Sent me home with antibiotics and oxycodones. Liquid diet for a couple days. :(
The fucking hangover I have today from the opiates is incredible. Fucking hell. It's like new years day 2k again.
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Glad you are feeling better, skiz. I can take quite a bit, but will admit being a big baby when it comes to tummy troubles. At least you got your divercus prodded by a hawt nurse. Not everyone has had that pleasure.
*seriously* pleased with the Shield TV! Have been setting it up, played with a couple of apps, and have watched some movies. Clear, smoothe, easy setup, trouble free. Really appreciate the rec on this. Better than fire tv in every aspect.

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
It’s awesome. And I really like the new version even I cannot personally take advantage of any of the new additions like HDR, dolby atmos, etc. Glad you like it, it’s a hell of a little rig. I think the new one is significantly smaller too right?
Two and a half days of clear liquid diet. I want to murder and eat everything. If I have to watch another Dominos Pizza commercial advertising and showing every product on their menu in all its glistening glory I’m gonna lose my shit.

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Oh yeah thats a big difference.

Did you get a second controller?
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
No immediate need for a second controller. Was thoroughly impressed with the games available. I might just have to give them $8 a month. i was expecting it to be *a little* better than Amazon, but it's muuuch better in every way. Considering a switch throughout the house.
What toys have made their way to your Christmas list this year, skiz? For me, it has been exploring Playstation VR. Enjoying that, and have several items going to be unwrapped...

If you do the $8/month thing you have to let me know how it is. Been interested in doing it but just never did.
Meh. Don't really need or want anything. I thought about selling my new TV and "upgrading". I have the 2015 Vizio M65. It's nice. 65" with 4K and all that. But the trade off you get when you buy a Vizio vs some of the other big name brands is you usually get a less than glamorous remote, smartTV menu is super simple and basic, and the unit itself isnt cutting edge thin, as with mine. The picture quality is always top notch tho. Anyways, I'm considering getting the new 2018 Vizio thats just released. My 65" might be a tad big so considering a drop to the 55" P-series P55. It has HDR, HDMI 2.0, all the Dolby bells and whistles, and a nice looking smart tv menu as well. The P55 is also 240hz vs my 120hz.
Fighting off my urges to pull the trigger since we're considering moving back to Texas. Might have that sorted out in a few months so holding off for now. :ermm:

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
I've never dabbled with the VR stuff but it looks cool. Why aren't the graphics better on those tho?
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
I thought you were happy where you are. Nice place, lots of stuff to do, and I haven't heard you mention anything you don't like there. One of the houses I do caregiving in has a nice 55" vizio. I am content with it. Found it strange that it has no on/off switch -- and the remote is lost. Had to power cycle it to get it on. I have a Samsung in the living room at home. Don't care too much about the smart features-- the Nvidia, even Amazon is a better interface.
Edit-- HDR sounds like a feature worth having. Comments I have seen (just offhand ones, not real reviews) make it sound like a big step up.

I think you need to dive in and try it. Even some of the simpler games are incredibly immersive. That's got to take extra processing power, and additional work to make everything interactive. Sooo much different than watching on any screen. First time I took my headset off, I had to readjust to the size of my living room -- I was so completely immersed in the game that the room I was in made me feel like that was the room I was in physically-- my living room was smaller than I had remembered. Such a strange feeling. It will only get more immersive and interactive.

Meh. It's a mixed bag. Summer weather is great. Winter lasts too long. Lots to do but we've done a lot of it as well. We miss Texas hospitality, food, and friends. People aren't exactly rude here but no one goes out of their way to be nice either. Colorado food is utter shit. These people are completely clueless about good food. And making a group of new friends in a smallish town while in your 40's... fuhgetaboutit. We each have some work peeps we like to hang out with and some running friends but that's about it. Trade offs are huge property taxes in Texas vs tiny prop taxes here. Our property taxes in Texas on a $350K home would run close to what our entire mortgage payment is here. :pinch:

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Shield TV on sale everywhere for $149 right now.

Yeah. State income tax here isn't bad tho at all. I was worried about when we moved here but it's been a non-factor.
I'm telling you man, this is a cheap place to live. Lets say you own a $300k home here. Your prop taxes are going to be about $100/month, whereas my house in Texas was 4x that. The prop taxes here are so insignificant that you don't even equate for them when home shopping.
Electricity: In Texas we have big electricity bills much of the year bc of the AC. I don't even own an AC here. My summer electric bills are fk all. And the furnace is pretty cheap in the winter bc it's gas.
Water: In Texas we all have St Augustine grass which needs lots of water to survive. I've had months in Texas where my water would be $400/m. Dont have that issue with Bermuda grass here. Doesn't need much water and the watering season is only about 4 months.
Internet: Fastest internet in the US here and $49/m for life. Don't even get me started on Time Warners bullshit...
Moving back to Texas may cost us $600-800 more a month to live in an equivalent home.

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
I got mine for $30 off the other day. Pretty sure that is the same deal you are seeing. Really appreciate the heads-up! It'll be a while before I grab an additional one-- right now, I'm looking at Pelican cases to keep it safe when I take it to work each shift, and PSVR games that come on sale. Gift cards are the besttttt present!

Most likely just self-respect and pride... :idunno: Notice that his house is in the $300k+ category. There are no wheels attached at the foundation. I can understand your confusion, though...

If it's an HOA neighborhood, then yes. If not, see below.

Definitely "+" but it's a huge sellers market in CO right now. That's part of the reason we'd like to take advantage. Austin unfortunately is a sellers market too tho so... :dabs:

Wat!? Wtf causes that? also "diverticulosis" sounds like medical jargon for "sex change operation". I can't say this comes as a surprise, you'll find no judgement here provided I get first fumble on those hawt new knockers :naughty:
In other global news, teh misses got me an external hdd for Christmas, for the xbox. It's a "2TB Seagate Expansion USB 3.0" which has solid reviews. I plugged it into the xbox, rested it on top of it where there are no fan grills, turned the xbox on and it saw and formated the HDD but the WiFi wouldn't work! Power cycled and it did the same thing. By chance I moved the hdd off the xbox and sat it next to it then I got 1 signal bar on WiFi. The fucking thing blocks WiFi! I googled it and apparently USB3 devices can do exactly that as they emit aids on the same frequency. Got to order a longer cable and keep it well away from t'box :emo:

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Cause seems to be just getting older but likely aggravated by food sitting in the colon too long. :emo: Doc just recommended eating a tad less meat and getting at least 35-40mg of fiber per day. As someone who never counts that sort of thing, I was surprised at how much fiber rich food you have to eat to obtain that. For example. I guess I'll try to boost my salads a bit and make some smoothies. Stupid adulting...

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Black Beans
Fiber: 15 grams per cup, cooked.
Black Bean and Sweet Potato Chili
Sweet potato pairs perfectly with the smokiness of chipotle peppers and adds even more fiber to this hearty bean dish. Loaded with complex carbs and protein, this cold-weather stew makes a perfect meal.

Word. Sweet potatoes are turrible but I can sub reg potatoes. Ive also learned potatoes have a lot of potassium as well. Bonus.
