Yeah, you're like ancient with the plastic electronic computer thingy.
I remember my Aunt having one of these with a party line.

Granted, where she lived was extremely remote. My young brain could tell it was remote because there were more bears than people.

2024 is off to a good start... first chuckles (at least for me) are rolling in off of this thread already!

What no call waiting??
No call identifier
And it looks a bit heavy to carry around??
Happy New Year :yay:
PS. Can you remember what the world looked like then?? Or at least if there was any actual Transgender Bears then that stole your porridge??
And i assume you can't call them "Black Bears" anymore :idunno:

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Call waiting was you waited for a call.

If you'd paid any attention to those gender identity seminars you'd know bears are also people, faggot

What about Unicorns? In fact their pronouns could be Uni/Corn.

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
I remember slim-line phones being tantamount to actual portability.
Phone cords could get you ten feet away from the base, and they came in colors other than black.
Phones were hard-wired - when phone jacks hit the market my Dad wired them into evey room.
I remember talking to my 7th-grade girlfriend while I was taking a shit...

Well, people still do that today.
If you're a true master you'll remember the first cordless phones which also happened to be AM radio transmitters :) Something that eventually led to their ban and recall via free swap program here.

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Unicorns are racist because white is consider a symbol of purity and black unicorns are the ones that have been tainted by demons. Brides are also racist. Anime on the other hand is just ghey.

Let's not get started on bicorns...

Fun fact: the color representing marital purity and fidelity was blue until Bill Gates changed it.

Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin and American Pie by Don McLean and Imagine by John Lennon and Brown Sugar from The Rolling Stones all came out in 1971 while you were having a shit. You should shit more often.

You mean captured by pirates?
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
No, privatization is when you sell a problem to someone else and then blame them for anything that goes wrong with it.
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
You're describing pirates.
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
No, pirates are the ones who post on Reddit about storing dozens of terabytes of stuff they'll never watch! It's like you're trying to pull my (non-peg) leg here

I don't post on Reddit.
I have approximately 3 TB of "stuff".
It's called storage for a reason, but I manage to watch/burn this and that.
I can't bend over far enough to pull anyone's leg.
So-
Not a pirate.

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Fair enough, yarr. I had more than you, until a hard disk crash three years ago and the very costly (but fortunately 90% successful) data recovery job that followed made me reevaluate this. Now I aim to have less data, not more :chris:

Pfft. That's like half an 8K movie.

Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Exactly.
I think the last time I downloaded anything was around 2005.

Just having started to watch 4K movies... for some reason, I found that oddly funny. :D
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
I remember when movies were 700 MB and also worth watching :emo:
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Most of my stuff is music, couple dozen movies, all of Blackadder, MST, stuff like that.
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
whenever i decide my CSS and Premiere Pro need another refresh, I also find out the trackers I signed up to get them the last time around have been disabled again for inactivity.
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
I download movies still but I put them on a USB flash drive and play them through my Nvidia Shield TV. Afterward, I just delete it. I have never kept what I download for long term use.
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
I used to download anything interesting "just in case" and archive most of it after watching, but now I do the same as you. Still have quite a bit of stuff from before this paradigm shift, maybe one day I'll finally catch up
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
I never saved them but, I used to burn the ISOs to DVDs and I had towers of movies on disc. Then suddenly, BluRay became popular and shortly after, 4K. I started looking at my big 4K TV and those 720 DVDs and was like, wtf am I doing? I trashed them all and never looked back. If I want to watch something again I'll redownload it or just see if it's available somewhere with justwatch.com. Or pay $4 to rent it if we don't want to wait.

I've been there, not with movies, but so many discs full of music, games and warez kept (once again) just in case. Burning was so exciting when it didn't fail and the whole process was like a science in and of itself - don't use a write speed faster than 4x or they'll totally become unreadable later, I tell you.
I have a heap of floppy disks I also plan to trash at one point, but not without checking what's inside first...
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
So... Purely for scientific research purposes, of course, but if one wanted to check out those Taylor Swift deepfakes and if one does not have an X account... where would one possibly get a hold of said pictures?
Asking for a friend.
-
Re: Last one to post wins the internets
Tell your friend and the media they aren't missing anything that hasn't been uploaded to E-Hentai a couple dozen times already.
