Some people seem to have a desperate need to be in the center of attention events ...And bad publicity is still publicity.

Too often, we loose sight of life's simple pleasures.Remember, when someone annoys you it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, BUT, it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and bitch-slap that mother!%$@%# upside the head!

I would guess the same as out of a thousand seeing it's a percentage.

meh, thats why I don't personally believe in percentages. If they survey 100 people they will quote that data as a national percentage, shit if the surveyed 1,000,000 people (next to impossible) it still isn't an accurate number. I think the US population is over 300,000,000 now so it's ridiculous if you think about ANY percentage of people being accurate...sorry I brought it up.

Actually statically speaking ,a smaller sampling of a big group gives a better chance of accuracy than a larger one as you are only bring in the possibility of more variables.Conversely the smaller the group the larger the sampling required.
I know it sounds the opposite to what it should be but think about and you should get the idea.
So for a population the size of the US ( I'm cheating here and using a online calculator) to be off by no more than 5% ninety-nine times out of a hundred you only need to survey 664 people.
As opposed to a population of 100 where you would need to poll 87 of them.

There was an episode of Penn and Teller: Bullshit! that explained this far better than I ever could. They made sense of how absurd even the idea of an accurate stat could be. You are right about the variables, but that is the reality and the difficulty of doing a realistic stat.
