    2009-07-10

"After less than 3 days, the 1.0.0 release of VLC has hit more than 3 million downloads on the download counter. We would like to thank the people who have downloaded it and especially, people who have donated to our cause."

It has been a great program for years! They really deserve accolades for their continued improvements and their first 3 million downloads.

    Great job, VLC!!!!

Yup...one of my favorites. No need to install codecs and I can't think of another app that can play a dvd iso!

That's the only use it holds for me these days.

I watch a lot of 1080 movies streaming to my TV and VLC simply can't handle it. I've found that Windows Media Player Home Cinema works best for all my needs these days.

as skizo said correctly, the player simply has bad coding, which results in a totally non streamlined HD playback. even trying to add coreavc to do the job simply won't make it as smooth as some other players.
i stay away from it like the devil from the cross. pretty much GOM or media player classic get my choice.

I primarily use KMplayer. It has a ton of hotkey controls, which I love and more features than any other player I've ever used. But, I still use VLC for the occasional broken video file which trips up KMplayer. VLC isn't poorly coded, it's just VERY robust in it's video processing which is less efficient than other players. But when no other player will play a file, chances are VLC will.

The only thing I use VLC for is screen shots in the actual DAR.

I prefer CCCP and Media Player Classic

I rarely use VLC, but it's always the solution if I want to play some weird fileformats.
