is there a certain resolution that automatically qualifies as 720p or 1080p? or do i need to look specifically for the term 720p when looking at the specs of something?

720p refers to a progressive HDTV signal with 720 horizontal lines and an Aspect Ratio (AR) of 16:9 (1.78:1). All major HDTV broadcasting standards include a 720p format which has a resolution of 1280x720.
1080 usually assumes a widescreen aspect of 16:9, implying a horizontal resolution of 1920 pixels and a frame resolution of 1920 × 1080
    Yes.
