Thread: Would this be a good seedbox?

  1. #1
    hi

i want to rent a dedicated server for use as a seed box but dont want to pay too much money.

im looking at the Hosting-IE offers because they are in my price range and seem to have everything i need. im thinking i might go for this deal from HOSTING-IE. http://hosting-ie.com/content/view/15/48/

    AMD Opteron 144 (64bit ready)
    160 GB of HDD disk
512 MB of RAM DDR-ECC (info)
    Traffic-Unlimited (guaranteed)
    100Mbit Switch Port
    Monitoring 14 Port's
    RemoteConsole
    PLESK 8 (info)
    Managed firewall
    Operation System*
    Monthly Payment
    78 € Setup Fee
    49 € Per Month

i want to order this tomorrow unless anyone says i shouldnt.

this offers unlimited bandwidth and everything else i need. the hard disk seems big enough and the price includes windows.

can anyone advise me if this deal is a good option before i hit the "Order" button.

would this be a good seedbox?

    cheers

You have to pay the setup fee & 3 months up front, if you can afford it, and wish to run a seedbox for 3 months, or more, then it is perfect, you will have no bandwidth worries and if you can max out your line even better.

I have an ie.hosting for long term use, and it suits my needs perfectly, the outlay is tiny per month once it is up & running, compared to other unlimited BW hosts.

    thanks sgtmajor

ive just been reading the Terms and Conditions and it says this:

    XVI. Lawful Purpose
Client may only use HOSTING-IE’s Server for lawful purpose. Transmission of any material in violation of any Federal, State or Local regulation is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to copyrighted material, material legally judged to be threatening or obscene,or “ADULT”, or material protected by trade secrets. Use of Hosting-ie’s facilities for bulk e-mail of any kind (spam
    or UCE) is expressly prohibited.

does that mean i wont be able to download and seed porn from places like fileporn.org and pussytorrents.org?

it also mentions Copyright material, is this a concern for setting up a seedbox, or dont they really care in reality?

can i pay all the bills by credit card inc the first 3 months and setup charge?

    cheers

oh bugger... ive found this deal from LeaseWeb:

    Express Servers

We offer high performance servers at unbeatable prices.

    Included:
    Full root access
    Dedicated (non-shared) switch port
    Premium hardware
    Windows Server 2003 Web Edition
    Managed DNS
    Self Service Center
    Real-time bandwidth monitoring

    Please note for express servers:
    Hardware cannot be upgraded
Maximum of 2 IP's can be asssigned

    Express Server 2

    Server: Dell PE 0860
    CPU: 1 x Dual Core Xeon 3050
    Memory: 1 GB
    Harddisk: 1 x 160GB SATA
    HW RAID: No
    Rackspace: 1U
    OS: Windows 2003 Web - 1CPU
    Switch port: 100Mbps (FE)
    Billing cycle: 1 month
    SLA: Self-managed
    Datatraffic: Volume 1000GB
    Initial term: 1 month
    Included:
    APC Remote Reboot (1port)
    IP Addresses (2)

theres no setup fee and i dont think i have to pay more than 1 month up front (no mention of 3 months in advance)... its not unlimited bandwidth but i cant see 1000GB being any more than i could possibly need... thats like 30GB a day which is plenty for me.

the server also has 1GB of ram rather than 515MB so it might be better at running azureus (my preferred client).

should i go leaseweb or hosting-ie?

    T&Cs yeh right!

Only when others complain would they care, and they have warned you haven't they?

Other than, do whatever you need to using firefox & utorrent via remote desktop control.

As for d/l & u/l - remember not to do the same files twice, only seed on the box what you do not need on your home PC You could go through all the trouble of FTPing from your box to your home PC if you wish, but I find it slows everything down too much, and generally make sure I just don't need to d/l the same things twice, just using the seedbox to maintain good ratios.

Don't forget - they have a very, very long lead in time, don't be surprised at waiting 2 weeks+ for your login details, but you only start paying for their service on the day you receive your details.

CC or paypal is fine with them, and it is worth it imo, but you may wish to wait to get a more balanced view from others with a different opinion.

LW & Vectoral are much more expensive, and therefore much better boxes, but like all things, we don''t always need the best things money can buy, we can get by using cheaper alternatives

    hi sgt

please see my prev post, edited to add information about a LeaseWeb deal.. seems pretty reasonable to me and no set up fee and they say you can be up and running in 24hrs

    that looks appealing...

And only 1TB (whcih is both up & down!), I can do that in less than 1 week on my ie.hosting, never mind a month.

Without wishing to teach you to suck eggs, you can set your TL & ScT & PyT accounts up for life time leeching if you use your box for the 3 months to it's max, never mind other accounts you can add in the meantime.

ah right, that answers that question then.

i was intending to ftp all the stuff i download back to my home computers, otherwise whats the point of the seedbox?

i like to collect and back up to dvd-r everything i download, so im not sure why you said dont ftp back to your computer.

do you use rss to download everything then from which ever tracker? i was still going to only download stuff i actually want, ive never downloaded content im not interested in as ive never seen the point...

perhaps i need teaching to suck eggs.. lol

i really want the seedbox for use on oink and bitmetv mostly, as well as thebox.bz... those are my priority sites. also torrentleech a bit, and perhaps some torrent-damage... im not a member of sct sadly.

Don't forget, FTP on a LW counts as BW!

And why have a seedbox?? Well with our UK ADSL shitty uploads, it means it allows me to only have to seed for the required minimum hours rather than the 1:1 ratio from my home PC, with the overall buffer being big enough to cover the ratio requirements.

And FTPing only slows everything down, I soon learned to download popular items on the seedbox to seed, and what I wanted & needed to my home PC, seedbox was fast enough to cater for both, I was where you are and totally intent on using FTP, took me less than a week to ditch that idea

And I never needed a seedbox for oink or bitmetv, or other small trackers similar to them, I leave them to my home PC, and that is plenty once the large files are taken care of by the seedbox.

If you really want to use a seedbox for bitmetv, then you need to learn how to grab new season DVDRs from other sources, turn to ISO format, and upload & seed, then you will get a decent ratio built up.

However, if all you want is a quick boost to your ratios, then sure, LW will do the job nice n easy, but no point in using FTP there, it counts against your BW, just use it for your bigger trackers & major releases only and seed like hell for the month.

    interesting sgt...

thanks for the informative and helpful advice... im new to seedbox's (obviously) so appreciate your comments.

im now swinging back in the direction of hosting.ie so i dont have to worry about BW.

    hmmm...

    cheers mate.

Well i believe any company, which is officially registered has to tell you that they are officially against of any illegal content
I'm currently holding 2 dedic servers from hosting-ie,
So what I've notice that they allow about 3-4 TB of BW, they say it is unlimited but as far I've seen you can use 3-4 Tb per month,(At list they do not charge for overtraffic)
And the speed is high enough.
The payment is: moth to month, but with contract of 3 years, not sure what that does means but I'm paying just month to month

    Chears
