Those without actual HD broadcasts can still enjoy HDTV on a PC but they must get it via download or media.

here in the states we have HD on demand in some markets. On demand is like a tivo/replay (PVR/Personal Video Recorder) but offered from the cable company but they have like every show and movie
they just don't have HD on demand here, I was going to get zoom but they went out of business
I think DTV will have everyone beet soon
`anyone from Argentina on this board?

On demand is nothing like PVR.Originally Posted by muchspl3
They are 2 separate things (I have both).
One is the (they call it) DVR and you get a measely 30GB hard drive space. You can record high-def broadcasts but they take up more space. (Funny I have card slot in the front of the box)
On demand is entirely different.
It's let's you choose the a movie on a whim. Most, right now, are NOT in HD.
If you pay for HBO (about 10 channels) you get HBO On Demand...which gives access to all the series, documentaries, and movie of HBO. The same goes for Showtime, TMC, Starz, etc.
You also get On Demand access to stuff like G4 TV, Nickelodeon, and other basic cable stuff. You even get additional content not available on basic or premium cable like The Anime Network which has TONS of anime separated by genre.
All of this is going to get a swift kick in the ass when FIOS comes along (and similar service) from the local telcos.
They are running fiber to the premises (FTTP) which will allow:
up to 4 telephone lines
up to 50 megabit internet
digital TV with more capacity than cable or satellite
....all on one fiber.
The main reason cable takes a little longer to implement a new HD channel is because they have set aside the bandwidth for it (and of course make a deal for it).
TNT HD was around for the longest yet Comcast just got it recently. The deal to get it was made before the end of the last basketball season.....yet I got it about a month ago (after the show The Closer already started). I was pissed cause I thought I would have it for the playoffs.
There is nothing like watching basketball or football in HD. That and nature shows.
