Just a quick question. Say you had a game installed. Would a deletion of the folder and a registry clean do just about the same thing as uninstalling it normally?

no. there will still be register keys.
if you delete the folder you need to check the register yourself and delete the keys.

Some programs leave files in other folders on your computer as well, so you wouldn't be removing those files.
Also some programs (usually not games tho, but that's not the point) install drivers and other types of shortcuts and registry keys into windows itself to integrate with it (for example, a firewall or antivirus), and removing the program's folder will just cause errors.
