Not everyone views nationalism the same.
In your country you may think it is a good thing but in other countries nationism might be considered a countrolling mechanism by government. Mussolini's doctrines on fascism and the american neocon Strauss stress nationalism as a tool of unifying public support. Those are modern but Costantine undertook unifying measures in Rome with religion and requiring a national language. I realize nationalism is big in america but some countries populations have been bit by politicians using patriotism too many times.
I respect the people who fought and died for my country and the people who continue to make it better but I and many see nationalism seperate from this. I am Canadian by the way.
