Me and my housemates just bought us a 3COM wireless router.
But every so often the online connection drops, we can still connect to the router, but the router doesn't connect to the internet.
    We have TalkTalk ADSL.
And you have to turn the router off, then on again, wait a bit, sometimes do this two or three times before it goes back online.

Is this 3COM or TalkTalk that the problem is with?

    Cheers,
    Hugo.

Do you use any 2.4 G phone hardware?

    Beaucoup problemos, there.

Disconnect any of that stuff and see how it works.

Turn off the microwave while you're checking...

Do you have anything which would interfere with the same band that your router is on?

Take a look where you are, FILESHARINGtalk.com

Are you saying that you didn't find this place through downloading films, music etc.?

Maybe Sam should have said dangerous?

Your neighbor could cause you some difficulties if he found you out.

Your problem with the FST crowd is a bit more...dispersed, or diffused.

    See what I mean?

I know what you mean. We're only doing it temporarily till we get our router going again.

I unplugged the wireless phone, but I still couldn't get our router to work, we haven't got a microwave so thats not an issue.

On the front of the router thre are four lights:

    Power, Sync, Online, WLAN

When its working all four lights on, then it drops the connection and the online light goes out.
But now the Sync light has gone out and it's just got Power and WLAN on.

Confusing me, we're going to give 3COM a call tomorrow, but i figured you guys here will probably be more helpful than someone in a call centre who doesn't really know what they're on about.

Anyone got any ideas what could be up with it?

I'm no expert, and have only set up my own (Linksys), but I researched them a bit before I bought mine, with an eye toward ease-of-use and set-up.

While I'm aware 3-Com is an industry standard, it may be the case you've got a unit not suited for your particular application, or possibly your documentation is incomplete?

I don't recall any 3-Com being mentioned as a popular router for personal use, but I may be wrong about that, too.

Calling 3-Com wouldn't be a bad idea, at that...
