    well I live in the UK and looking a dvd that does the following:

    PAL and NTSC Playback
    DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+R/DVD+RW
    DivX
    Xvid (not a requirement)
    MP3

    I bought this one the other day. It looks cool and works really well, which is nice.



    It was £52 including p&p from savastore.com.

    It does all the things you said - and I'm pretty sure that XviD is the same as DivX.
    I plan on beating him to death with his kids. I'll use them as a bludgeon on his face. -

    they're separate but similar. and they've got some amount of compatibility between the two.

    most "mpeg-4" dvd players will play both divx n xvid though.

    as far as players available within the u.s., i'd recommend that philips model. it's not perfect, but just about as good as it gets for that type of device -- especially at such a low price (approx $60 USD now). in other countries... i dunno, there might be something else worth looking at, like the kiss players.
