I can't install quicktime alternative's latest codec pack because of an unreadable registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.qt

The bastard won't even delete in safemode!!!

I need the quicktime codecs, but something has currupted one of their keys.

Are there any programs that delete a registry key upon boot? I know there's one that deletes unreadable files upon boot called MoveOnBoot.

    Any help would be great...

Maybe it's something to do with registry key permissions, they can be a nightmare in XP.. Try logging in as the Owner useridentifier of that particular registry key, and see if that makes any difference.

save this as a .reg file and run
if it doesnt Barbrssa is right - fix your permissions.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.qt]

I actually solved it a different way yesterday. I made a copy of BartPE with tons of plugins (Nero, Regedit, Firefox...the works!) and was able to delete the registry file. The Regedit PE software loads your windows directory hive files, so it allows a 100% access. BartPE has come in handy two times now...
