If you have a good quality .avi you can directly burn it to a good quality vcd using Nero 5.5.9.0. All you need to do is uninstall all codecs and install klcodec16 - kazaalite's codec package - before you burn and it works fine, no need for encoding etc, just straight .avi to vcd

It says that it needs MPEG-2 which was encoded for Super Video CD.
And at the bottom of the message it says:
Analysis of the file found
-Stream encoding which is invalid for a Video-CD
-no video
-no audio

Install K-Lite Codec Pack and you will be fine becuz your problem is that you need a codec which plays MPEG-2 files and in K-Lite Codec pack, there is a codec called Ligos which will make it possible.
If you install K-Lite Codec Pack, then uninstall all your old codec first (DivX,Xvid etc.) or else it may cause problems.

I've also got a problem with vcd/svcd, when nero encodes some of my avis around 700mb, they come out at 850 - 1000mb, while tmpgenc makes them over 2000mb, these sizes are too big for one cd even with overburing please help.
