At a Birthday party recently, a retired Child Doctor(30years) gave a watercolour painting of a lemon to the birthday lady.
He was very proud of it.
ok fine
but
after 30 years of being a Child Doctor is the summation of his life a watercoloured lemon?

I believe that with the knowledge he has gained over the years he should be expressing himself with/through this knowledge - and delving into those areas he is an expert at - whether on a scientific/biological/clinical artistic level.
A banal example of how he could proceed is that for him (lets say he goes into "painting") his palet could consist of the colours found on the skin of a child - eg - hepatitus (egg white), influenza1 (white/sweaty), influenza2 (glowing pink) etc even to the more morbid organic elements.
or go in a more statistical/chemical form
Whichever direction /styel/technique/concept he decides to go atleast he should somehow want to express or share with the world his knowledge of which we(non child doctors) know little about.
There are too many watercolors of lemons,flowers,nudes, landscapes etc etc etc
made by retired people whos live's experience and expertise could bring Art to a higher level
these people have lifes knowledge of all the areas in society today
I blame the teachers at these sunday schools for not going more personal on the retired enthusiasts. It is their conservative teaching that stagnates the developement of art and its understanding.
you=lemon?
