I had a moan on the winamp forums about the memory usage and it turns out its caused by giving a large static buffer to all songs in your playlist. they are creating dynamic buffers in version 5.12 so it should use less memory then the 2.x branch.
not sure why its using so much cpu time though. i would do a clean install without any plugins and see if that fixes it.
