Thread: Which is best Video LAN or Classic Media Player ?

  1. #1
    Hi guys

In your opinion which is the best media player of these 2.

I want to ditch Windows Media Player and Winamp. I am using Foobar 2000 for my music player.

Classic media player needs lots of codecs
VideoLan has built in support for most formats.

Which do you like the best and why ?

    Regards

I still prefer WinAMP for music and BSPlayer for avi files. The only time I even use VideoLAN is to preview files as I dont really like the interface that much although its a great app. As for CMP its ok but a bit plain and last I used it lacked some base features I use and the only time I ever use it is for odd file types that the other players cant handle like mov and so on. I dont really see any reason to limit yourself to one as I use even different players for dvd stuff also. I would have to say that the closest thing to all in one may just be VideoLAN though...

Hi Digby along time ago in a galaxy far away I learned to keep players and to swap them out for various resolutions, different systems, different sounds sort of contrast and compare...you may find that one software program is way better than another for playing a certain song or movie or tv clip or dvd....because of origins and resolutions from where and how it was recorded. my system has for example a number of programs... creative media player3.0.19.0(from my zen micro) winamp ver 2.81,ver 5.01,ver 5.08,ver 2.7.70 windows media classic ver 9.0.0.3250 videolan ver 0.6.2,ver 0.8.0.0 realalt ver 1.42 powerdvd interactual player ver 2.4.8.406 nero player ver 6.3.1.10 win media from xp pro santa cruz controls for thx sound I have some others in archive(bs player etc.) so to answer your question...currently the creative software is primary...but winamp and others are available as needed. sorry for the long answer digby but I thought your thread was looking for ideas for your system to use but really you should try other players my system is not just for gaming...it is multipurpose and I have lots of storage. your needs may differ I hope this is in keeping with your thread.

I stopped using BSPlayer and I almost never use Classic. I recommend VLC.

Videolan for video files always, as i never have any problems with having to install codecs.
If for some reason videolan does't work i use mediaplayer classic.

    WInamp for music files always.
