hey, ive just tried to play a DVD-R disc on my DVD rom drive on my PC and it doesnt recognize the disc at all, this is quite an old drive i know but are there any drivers or anything like that which could enable the drive to play this type of disc.

at the moment it doesnt play anything other than authentic DVD discs like what ya buy at the shop

    replies would be much appreciated

Some older drives can only read -R or +R ... but not both (due to the format wars). No drivers are needed with XP and no drivers will help.

I had the same problem with an LG DVD ROM. I changed the firmware (unofficial) and then it worked.

What make and model is your drive?

ive downloaded the firmware update but the installation looks complicated, or maybe im just reading too much into it, is it just as simple as clicking the executable file?
