    Right on

Jeff Loomis: He's so good, he doesn't need to be dead to have a tribute.

i'm glad you liked it. i somehow knew you would. i somehow feel bad for giving out all of my favorite metal songs from the past years combined... how selfish of me though huh? anyway...

as i lay dying - 94 hours (classic quality stuff)

roadrunner united - the dagger (when you combine all-star bands, what would you expect?)

underoath - reinventing your exit (for whoever didn't like the omission of '...chasing safety' up ^there)

avenged sevenfold - eternal rest (burning intro to neck-snapping, 2-ton, riffs)

    december - host

the agony scene - we bury our dead at dawn -AND/OR- scapegoat (**caution** this guys voice is a little snarly, like cradle of filth if you know, just a warning)

norma jean - memphis will be laid to waste

    [old] rammstein - herzeleid
[not so old] rammstein - zwitter
    [nu] rammstein - keine lust

arch enemy - lament of a mortal soul (this is a bonus track, so it might be slightly tuff // its worth it for that damn near record-fast double bass)

rise against - torches (seems they're the band of the week around here, so i hope everyone knows this one )

slayer - bloodline (believe its a mid-career tune)

the used - sound effects and overdramatics (another fantastic screamer, go, bert, go!)

atreyu - aint love grand (my fav atreyu song)

thrice - under a killing moon (trying to get their new cd asap)

trivium - pull harder on the strings of your martyr (they owned ozzfest, soon they'll own metal)

ok... now you seriously can't have a head left.

    --------
ok, these songs aren't even heavy or metal or anything, but since i'm reccomending stuff i'll add:

    nothingface - ether
by the end of tonight - potential getaway driver

    enjoi

These songs are so fucking fast and heavy they will kick all youse asses.

    • 1. Emperor - The Loss And Curse Of Reverence
      2. Arch Enemy - Enemy Within
      3. Dimmu Borgir - Blessings upon the Throne of Tyranny

And as if thats not enough to question your fate, there is a Canadian death metal band called Thorazine which if they had better production quality (like the quality on Arch Enemys work), and didnt break up, they could take over the world. Or just become more popular ya know.

all very true ad. have you ever thought about what bands like zeppelin or sabbath could have done if they had access to today's production technology?

i wouldn't say any of the bands you listed were more of 'real metal bands' than any others listed. metal is too broad to have a 'real' category. of course martyr ad, tool, van halen, the scorpions and metallica are all metal bands, but how extremely different are they? 'real metal' wouldn't really describe any of them.

it's not good when people have to take sides between slipknot or bands like judas priest or anthrax. the early roots of hard rock and metal are awesome, but so is a lot of the stuff that it inspired. every sub-category has its pros and cons, but all of it rocks.

It's the fact they produced their music without all these modern technologies. It is a sign of musical talent. Not computer savy talents.
