Mandrake

I am downloading mandrake as we speak(will be done in about 2 1/3 hours )
I chose mandrake because I am a COMPLETE noob to linux and it seemed more user friendly than redhat.
so my question is since I use windows xp right now what differences will there be what should I expect?
will mandrake run well on a virtual pc?
any advice,help,warnings,comments etc welcomed

If U 've never used linux before, I would highly suggest Red Hat 9.0, it is very user-friendly (compared to other releases), the interface is very similar to windows, and it's pretty easy to set up. here r some guides U might be interested in:

threre are mutch more, but these should more then cover the basics

ps: as a sidenote, this new K-sig utility sucks, Sig2Dat was mutch better (the sigs are in this format 'cause the links didn't work )

Mandrake is a very good choise for beginners. You need to set it up in its own partition on your hard drive. As to what to expect different than windows? I think the best way to find out is to install it and try it yourself. Goodluck, "The Avatar Man".

mandrake is great! i installed it two days ago... and I LOVE IT! i'd be on it right now... but i cant connect to the internet using it... but once i can, its going to be all that i use!

during the installation, it lets you partition your harddrive using its software... don't worry cuz its SUPER easy! even a thicko like me was able to get through it!!

I just finished downloading LINUX Red Hat 9.0 (all 3 disks/ISO)

I am a newbie on this. What problems am I going to face. Already I heard that somebody can't get an internet connection working with it.

... i have it............................... i liked it up untill my stoobi dialer daemon kept DYING and never connected to the net no matter how much i tried........ my suggestion be carfull in you setup and packages selection and seek help from a mate who knows what he/she's doing

i'm thinking of re-installing mandrake and re-configuring my connection details... hopefully that will work!
