    Then I'll say this:

The presumption is that the liberal view is mainstream, and that, therefore, for the press to be described as liberal is neither true nor possible, ergo the only influence that could be responsible for such an outrageous conclusion would be a conservative one.

Liberals here go to great lengths to avoid being labeled as such.

    From the article...
" After adjustments to compensate for disproportionate representation that the Senate gives to low‑population states and the lack of representation for the District of Columbia, the average ADA score in Congress (50.1) was assumed to represent the political position of the average U.S. voter."
Pretty large (and baseless) assumption, IMO.
I live in the state that gave you Tom Tancredo and Marilyn Musgrave, neither of whom represent my views at all.

Politicians are sensitive souls and always tend to think the media is biased against them.

The BBC is viewed by some as left wing (let's leave Mr Gibson out of the equation though). Despite this, the Labour party have historically viewed it as "old establishment small "c" conservative".

The truth is the BBC has been able to upset both left and right wing politicians by simply asking them to justify their policies or exposing cover-ups. I would call that even handed and reasonable public interest journalism.

Commercial media has to turn a coin and will tend to reflect the views of its perceived market. If the bulk of the media is Liberal in the USA would it not be reasonable to presume that the media perceive the bulk of their readers/viewers are that way inclined. A biscuit maker would not put chocolate on his biscuits if he thought chocolate was unpopular.

Why can't the average joe ask politicians to justify their policies? Instead, they go along with zipped lips if it's their party that should be questioned.

    What's this?

    Logic? Reason?

    For shame, Les...
