You need to look at where the target destination is located. Change it if you want to go to a different directory. You can find out where the files went by doing a windows search by searching for the phrase "*.vob" which is a wildcard search.

You rip the files to your hardrive, which removes the copy-protection. Then you encode the VOBs to avi, which compresses the file size.
I suggest going to http://www.doom9.org/ and http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ and read the tutorials. Doom9 has a Gordon Knot tutorial. If you find Gordon Knot a bit overwhelming, you might want to try Vidomi, which is easier to figure out for first timers but it does not have all the features of Gordon Knot.
