downloadspeed and internet connection

i am a bit confused about speed

i have a 1 mbps adsl connection with dialup modem

my highest download speed is 100kbps and up 300kbps

i just thought that 1mpbs is 1000 kbps or ?

hope someone can give me a simple explination

kbps is kilobits per second, kBps is kilobytes per second.

So your theoretical maximum is 125 kB/sec (more like 105-115)

If your upload is 300kbps then your max would be 37.5 kB/sec (more like 32ish)

Bits and bytes are different, 1 byte is 8 bits.
