Thread: Will wireless slow down my speeds?

  1. #1
I am looking at getting a wireless router and card for my pc and would like to know if I will be shooting myself in the foot by doing so.

I have recently gotten an 8MB connection and am a little worried that I will lose speed by going to a wireless setup at home. I would like to do this as we will soon have 2 pc's and will be working from home, so the flexibility of moving around without moving wires too would be great.

But if this will slow me down too much, I will either re-consider or possibly go to a slower connection so I am not paying more while being unable to use it.

    Thank for any suggestions.

Imo provided you can get a decent signal it shouldn't make any difference. I've got a 4Mb connection & wireless and I can max it out no probs.

I'm assuming you meant 8Mb (instead of MB) connection and the router is wireless g not wireless b

Wireless 802.11b transfers up to 11 Mbps.
Wireless 802.11g transfers up to 54 Mbps.

So if your talking about 8 Mbps then you'll be fine.

Thanks guys I went and bought the 802.11g Linksys with SRX. Don't know if the SRX is all that much better, but it sounds cool
