Typically, my experience is that the older, cheap PCs require waaay more of our time than the profit justifies.
People who can't/won't spend the dosh to acquire a decent machine still expect them to do everything that a more expensive PC will (after all, a "computer is a computer", right?) and harrass us to death trying to flog a Win 98 machine into performing like a real 'puter.
