You need to give a lot more information. What kind of file was it? Filename, filesize, etc? Is it from a DVD? Is it a VOB? BTW, you cannot copy from DVDs without removing the copyprotection.

To remove the copy-protection or rip the movies, you need a program like SmartRipper or DVD-Decrypter. It can copy the entire DVD or just the necessary vobs to your hardrive. I strongly suggest you visit sites like http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ and http://www.doom9.org/ to learn the process and DL the software. Keep in mind, if you're trying to copy it to a DVD±R, a dual layered DVD movie can hold up to 9.4GB of data while a the DVD±R is just 4.7GB. On average, most movies are around 5-7 gigs. Goodluck.
