Applying thermal paste would probably invalidate the warranty too - that's OK if you were gonna mod it anyway, but if the warranty's important to you then think before you do it.

Marking "non returnable" doesn't mean that you accept faulty merchandise.

Normally they give you 15 days to return for refund/exchange. That's what they are talking about when they say "No Returns".
Other than that you still have the 30 days warranty on "applicable retail boxed parts".
